I don't know if it's worth it to run a contest like this here. If you head over to http://www.worth1000.com/default.asp you can see a lot of great, more focused contests that really stand out.
These guys have it down pat there. I think they do at least one new contest per week and this stuff is pretty amazing.
What I'm trying to say is that it might be better to give your contest some sort of theme.

Dark-Tech's took ages to load, but looked great. And yeah, it would be good if there were some links etc. to tutorials.

gimp is very amateur in my opinion. There is a massive limit to what you can do on it, do what you must to obtain photoshop. 10000000000000000x better

Its nice, But actually it is very easy to make
that one with the glass ball is awesome
i love photoshop, just messing around with personal photos and stuff
the only downside is the cost!

brilliantbeauty, wow I love your work. The 'Aphrodite' piece is beautiful, I think that one is my favorite. I to have PSP, but hopefully sometime soon I will have Photoshop...I used to have 6.0 but alas, I do not anymore. 
Hey, we make do with what we have. I actually went ought and bought that copy of PSP. Otherwise I was stuck with a glamourized version of paint.

I love it. I have used it for about 5 months and can do some awesome stuff with it. If you learn how to use it, you can get some awesome effects. though. I'm lacking entusiasm to go into files right now though, so I won't post my best work.
