i need to upload a picture from my computer to frihost forum.can i upload picture from computer to forum,if yes then how it is possible.give me detailed idea?

You can't upload photos directly to the Forum. You need to create an account with a photo host like ImageShack. Upload your photos to your account in ImageShack and then link the photos in ImageShack to the post, with image tags on.

Like so:

Click on the quote button to see what the tags look like

If you have picasa (www.picasa.com) you can do something similar. Upload it to Picasaweb (you need a google account for that) and you will then see a link on the right frame to embedd that in your website or into posts.

The difference with imageshack or so is that because it integrates with Picasa, it's more straigh forward and user friendly.

I would advise http://imgur.com/ though. Way simpler, less advertisements and your image stays up longer.

I would prefer (and always had) Photobucket. Its free, its user friendly and easily manageable where you can create folders and protect them with passwords. Every thing can be done easily and in a simplified manner.

Anyway for your reference please have a look at the following links:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_photo_sharing_websites

http://www.ebizmba.com/articles/image-hosting-websites

http://www.smashingapps.com/2009/06/03/7-best-free-image-hosting-and-photo-sharing-websites.html

The major problem you may come across with most of the websites is the innumerable amount of advertisements and pop-ups. (which may be irritating sometimes). But choose a good one and you will get along with it.

I like Imgur, however I find it a bit slow and a week ago I was unable to upload a photo to Imgur from my hard disk. So tried Image Shack instead. That was a fantastic experience as one doesn't need to have an account with them in order to get an image link for Forum posting. The whole process took me seconds to do.

You can use Imgur without an account. I'm not sure if they provide bbcode after uploading, but I usually just put the image url between the img bbcode tags and it seems to work fine.

Thanks Bondings. I actually did have an account at the time I just could not upload an image from my hard disk - sort of a one time event. I tried everything. The drag and drop option as well. Sort of went dead on me and timed out. Just happened once however. But yes, in the cases it worked, there was a code available that one could simply copy and paste.

huh ? Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes maybe I don't understand.. why use other image hosters ?

When you get webspace here (frihost) just paste your FTP-link into your Windows Explorer and log in.

It will give you a normal file view.

You can upload files by just dragging to your ftp account.

eg suppose this is your ftp :

ftp://ftp.youraccountname.frihost.org

.. then you can refer to the picture using

http://youraccountname.frihost.org/mypicture.gif

I've just tested the procedure for my brand new account here. Thanks Admin !

Very Happy Lx

Best non account image host around at the moment. I used to use ImageShack until they started banning domains left, right and centre. and denying proper hotlinking although to be fair my images are still up from like 10 years ago or something.

The best way if you want something mega permenant is use something like flickr or your own domain if you know you'll always have your server index backed up to upload to whatever server.

Because they're more convenient?
Because they allow things like commenting on images?
Because you don't want to use up your limited web space and bandwidth here?

- regarding conveniency.. I think a foreign web page with capcha or login is less convenient than FTP.

- Comments I give on my own page next to the image when I put the image (in a blog, or on a forum)

- Bandwidth may indeed become a problem, but for me it won't, I always use it for forum replies.. when a topic gets old, my picture wont generate bandwidth anymore..

The easiest way in my opinion is through FTP. Download an FTP client, Filezilla is a well known one and I use it myself. Enter your details (i.e. domain address, FTP username / password) and then select the folder you want to upload your image to then drag and drop.

This is much more convenient to me. Though it has been a long time since I've used an image hoster. I used to use imageshack.us, but once they started enforcing you to register, I no longer use any image hosters I just use my own server.

Though either way will get the job done.

There are ways to make image hosts very convenient.

For example, Picasa can (with one click) resize and upload photos to a few different photo sharing sites.

There are firefox addons that allow you to upload any image to photobucket by right clicking it and selecting the right option.

wow, i know only PhotoBucket from my friend, i don't use image hosting site for now cause i don't need, well, i have new different site known today, thanks Very Happy

Very nice indeed @ocalhoun, to be able to use a popup right click menu to send an image to an image hoster. I found something similar for Google Chrome and Imgur,

http://www.brothersoft.com/imgur-uploader-399929.html

I'd actually wanna see if I can make something for Chrome, to work with my website Smile

http://thundaxsoftware.blogspot.nl/2011/09/my-first-google-chrome-extension-get.html

.. when it can connect to an arbitrary FTP upload url.. I'd fill in my own..

Just noticed this too. Definitely going to use it too. That way I don't have to forget Imgur name. For some or other reason that name won't stick. Very Happy

Can't believe it .... Norton's has just removed the setup file saying it's unsafe, why would it do that? Shocked
