Not sure what these mean ....

Just picked up on this in a very OLD thread, but not sure what it all means. Embarassed I did a search on it and maybe did not go about the search properly as I can't figure out what this is about, what is IPB and what is vBulletin .... and why are they not allowed?

Please note that we don't allow IPB and vBulletin forums on Frihost and definately not nullified ones. Serials, keygenerators, cracks, torrents and similar are not allowed either, this also includes linking to the files. Using any of these will result in a ban and hosting account removal.

IPB - Invision Pro Boards, vBulletin; both are paid forum (etc.) software.
No non-free forum software is permitted on Frih sites, due to the potential for piracy, which could come down on Frih.

It's also mentioned in the TOS

6. vBulletin, IPB and other paid forums/software without prior permission from an administrator.

@deanhills, the point is that these forums are paid software (and not cheap) and as the others mentioned pretty much all (actually all, there were a few people that asked for permission but in the end I don't think any ended up hosting it here) cases did not pay for them and they use what is called "nullified" versions that are modified to run without a valid license key (just like the cracked games that work without a valid key).

The problem is that we can get problems due to this being illegal. Secondly, these versions are usually not up to date and have security problems or have back-doors and get the account (or even server) hacked.

There is also enough good and free open source forum software available and I would really recommend everyone to use it.

@Bondings But what about the self coded software. I means to say that does the softwares those are coded and created by user themselves are allowed to be hosted here.

Of course software that you created/coded yourself is allowed.

Thanks for the info Bondings - exactly what I needed to know. Particularly the portion about it having potential for security problems as well. That has been very educational, and of course makes great sense the way you explained it.
