Could we please get XSLT/XSL processing in PHP? (solved :D )

boinsterman
I need server-side XSLT and/or XSL processing in PHP, and since Frihost apparently does not provide it, I need to ask for it or find another that does. (info at http://us2.php.net/manual/en/book.xslt.php and http://us2.php.net/manual/en/book.xsl.php) LibXML apparently is installed, but libxslt, Expat, and Salobotron do not seem to be according to word searches in http://www.frihost.net/phpinfo.php.

Don't get me wrong, Frihost is a good webhost so far, and I will probably keep my account here if it doesn't get installed, and maybe even part of that website, though the rules don't seem to allow what I had in mind. I just wouldn't do the XSLT part here.

First of all, you are on Server 4 and you should check http://frihost.org/phpinfo.php for php configuration (the frihost.net one is on VPS1, a different server).

Secondly, I installed it now, could you please check if it works? Very Happy

The XSL seems to be working! (at least in Opera) The first page is at http://worldthinker.frihost.org/r2s_7634/r2s_blog2.php. There are few small differences from how client-side processing was displaying it, but I'm sure I can figure it out. But in Google Chrome it wasn't showing up at all, and now it is! Very Happy!!!

I got my source code from http://us3.php.net/manual/en/xsl.examples.php. It worked on the first try.

I tried http://frihost.org/phpinfo.php first but got a "not found on this server error".

Great! And about the phpinfo, I created the page after seeing your request since it got removed some time ago and I forgot to put it back before now.

Thanks very much. I suggest adding the phpinfo page to your stickies, if you have not already done so.

Meanwhile, I'm having trouble determining the limitations of what you installed, which apparently includes libxslt but not expat or salobotron. Any others?

Functionally speaking, XSLT 1.0 seems to work, but not XSLT 2.0 and functions such as fn:distinct-values and fn:year-from-date? (functions it looks like I will need, unless I figure out another way)

Could you describe the basic reasons you install or do not install libraries such as these? (security, complexity of coding, processor time, hard drive space, and the like) It might help us when deciding whether to request other libraries, and which ones. If so, it might be helpful to post the known characteristics such as these, or to find a listing elsewhere.

Frihost seems like a very good webhost!

Thanks,

Please list which php libraries you really need and want included and I'll see what I can do. By the way, when I search for salobotron, the only result is this topic so I think you've got the name wrong.
