DNS Management

pauline5765
Hi. I need to be able to change my MX Records to point to google apps. I've researched for a while and realized I needed some "DNS Management" under the "Your Account" tab for it. But I don't see it anywhere. Is there some way for me to point mx records to google, so I can send emails to my user@mywebsite.com ?

you need to use your own dns like zoneedit (they give you 2 domains free). set this dns in your domain registrar.

at zoneedit:
set your domain A record to frihost ip
set your www.domain as cname point to your domain (this way, if frihost change ip, you just need to change your domain A record only)
set mx record to gmail

optionally:
create dummy_sub_domain.your_domain at zoneedit
set mx record for this dummy sub domain to gmail
create domain alias in google app, this dummy subdomain is an alias for your domain
this will allow you to use script in your hosting to send e-mail to your gmail. just send all e-mail to this dummy subdomain.

if your script try to send e-mail to your domain from script in frihost, it will stuck at frihost because frihost dns server still point your mx record to frihost.

If you are asking particularly about frihost, it does not have "DNS Management". But you are allowed to have unlimited email addresses. So you do not need to use google Application.

DNS management feature is disabled in DA. You can use dns management provided by your registrar or some free dns providers like http://freedns.afraid.org

create A Record to point your domain to frihost.

I did the A record i think. I followed these intructions:

Quote:

Enter your domain (excluding "www") and click "Submit".
On the "Zone Records" tab, add your host's ip to the field called IPv4 address - leave the first field as is. Click on "add".
Click on "Add Zone Record" at the top of the page.
In the new fields that open, type "www" in the first field (without the double-quote marks), 7200 in the TTL field and your host's IP address in the IPv4 Address.
Click on "Save" on the top right and click on "Publish Zone" on the next page.

But I can't find where to change the mx records... and I still can't receive mails on my mail@domain.com. Sad

I'm a totally noob on this, so if there would be anyone that will give specific instructions, please do. Sad

freedns.afraid.org doesn't work either.. cant access the site.. returns a network error.

there is 2 ways you can get help on how to enter your mx record

1. tell us what dns service you are using
2. ask directly in that dns service's online help/forum or read their faq.

we could help, but we certainly not a mind reader.

I registered my domain on the process when I'm creating an account with Google Apps. Google said I'm registering my domain with GoDaddy instead. So I did. I learned how to point nameservers and there were 4 fields, NS1-NS4.

I places ns1.frihost.org and ns2.frihost.org in my NS1 and NS2. You guys mentioned zoneedit... so I tried it out and placed the nameservers of zoneedit in NS3 and NS4. I think I was able to do it correctly coz the "broken link" icon disappeared when I check it the next day. I guess it means its successful?

So here I was looking for instructions how to edit MX Records with ZoneEdit, and all of them are telling me to click on Mail Server (MX). But the problem is, I can't see it.

Bondings
@pauline5765: If you use a different dns server for your nameservers, then you need to remove ours first, only use those of the other dns server. And then on the new dsn service (like ZoneEdit), point the A record for the domain name to the ip address of the server you are on.
rjraaz
First you have to remove frihost nameserver entry as bonding said.

Second there is a well explained help article on google's official site. Here i include the link of that and one additional link of another article, hope those will help in great way.

If you will still get problem after following links, please tell us here. I will try all setup then post step by step procedure for that.

Sorry, but I really cannot follow. I did my best to do it over and over again but it still doesn't work - even waited for 3 days (since it says to wait for 48 hours)... Please help me Sad

I don't know what's wrong with the ZoneEdit I made.

From: http://support.google.com/a/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=55378

It tells me to Add ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM in MailServer, but I don't know where is this "MailServer".

I have also put ns5.zoneedit.com and ns9.zoneedit.com as my nameservers in godaddy...

If there are any other alternatives to fix my problem, please tell me Sad[/img]

I would try that as an MX entry, if I am not mistaken.
