A orange seedling or a lemon seedling?

How to tell if a seedling is an orange seedling or a lemon seedling?

I put some seeds from orange fruit and lemon fruit in a pot.

Now there are some seedlings in the pot.

Anyone knows how to tell if a seedling is an orange seedling or a lemon seedling?

Both plants look very similar and waiting for the flowers and fruits will take several years.

I found this page about the difference between orange & lemon trees. It says that
Quote:
Lemon leaves have jagged edges, and the branches of the trees bear thorns. Oranges may or may not have toothed leaves.
So according to this, if the plant don't have toothed leaves it's an orange. Note that the first pair of leaves looks different so you will have to wait until it get "real" leaves. Maybe the tooths will not be visible on small leaves so you might have to wait until you get larger leaves to be sure.

The page also says that
Quote:
Orange trees tolerate colder growing conditions, while lemons have the lowest cold tolerance of any citrus fruit,
Gradually lower the temperature. The plant's that dies first is probably lemon, and the last plants to survive is probably orange. I know, you probably don't want to do this and it's probably unreliable anyway.

Thanks a lot.

For lemon plants, I will look for toothed leaves and jagged edges of the leaves and also thorns on the branches!

And others will be orange plants!

It's good to know if the weather is getting too cold, I should take the lemon plants indoor.

The thorns aren't diagnostic, unfortunately; oranges often have thorns too.

And oranges grown from a seed nearly always will.
