Anyways SEO are so important now because most things are website based. This being said these websites want to be the first result on Google, Bing, Yahoo, etc. So SEO gets your website the best result you can get by using tags and descriptions to do so. So all being said the websites just want to be the first result and be more likely to get views and/or customers.

In fact I would differ there. I think in future, SEO is going to be more and more irrelevant. SEO by definition mean that you can somehow 'trick' a search engine to display your page instead of a competitors page irrespective of what is best for the user. Therefore, I think search companies will change its algorithms as soon as SEO crosses a threshold. (I do not know what that threshold is but I guess it is just above when it start impacting user experience).

You might remember few months ago google's result became too crappy and mostly contained links from 'content aggregators' (the sites which do not have their original content but instead source content from other sites) which had used SEO. This resulted in original pages showing behind these aggregators. Google was rightly pissed at this and has in fact changed its algorithm after that. So, what I want to say here is that as soon as SEO will grow to some detectable level it will again require a rework. Once companies realize this I think then days of SEO will be numbered and companies will focus on what is core to them -- the content.

That is very true. Apparently Google implemented Google Panda in February of this year stepping up with algorithms, however that of course has affected some Websites negatively whereas they should have been more positively ranked and the other way round. I'd say it is very difficult to do a fair ranking evaluation with algorithms. Particularly when it is done by a search engine that has grown as large as Google has, to the extent that it can get everyone to dance to its tune.

I think it's going to become symbolic of our tax system in that there will always be a better specialist needed to optimize tax avoidance when Governments create new hurdles. So with SEO the more sophisticated techniques Google is using, the more specialized SEO specialists will have to become so as to safeguard Websites against traps Google has set to catch the "bad guys", but that can also lead to the "good guys" being affected as well. I'd say it is a profitable area for IT people to specialize in along the lines of being specialists at what hurdles Google is creating and how it can affect Website design and content. So SEO will probably become a growing industry along technical lines.

Good seo is spamming dofollow forums with signature links, bad seo is spamming no follow forums with signature links, the OP is a demonstration of bad seo.

Google Panda is a good link. looks like this was what changed which made content aggregators to disappear from top results.
Regarding tax system, I think it is a correct analogy to make. The key for search engine remains here is to ensure that more bad guys are affected than good guys.

Recently, reports are coming that Google is going to penalize sites which 'overoptimize' or 'over-SEO' themselves. According to google, they are doing this to help those sites which have great content but lose out to sites which have mediocre content but excellent search engine optimization(SEO) done.
Here is the link.

Thanks for the article Hunnyhite, that's a real eye-opener. On the one hand I'm happy to hear this, but on the other just hate it that one corporation can have so much power as to penalize those according to its own standards. Penalizing people for over optimizing I agree with, but just wonder how many other rules and regulations will be following after this one. Since Panda the sky has to be the limit for Google with a good chance of turning Google into Big Brother, if it is not already there.

That's right. I share your apprehensions. But I think that is the way computer industry is working these days. Intel defines how a microprocessor should be, microsoft decides how an Operating System & Office suite should be, Apple decides, although in limited sense, how a tablet should be and obviously Google decides how search should be.

With a number of websites cropping up with the same name as your website because of numerous Top Level Domains it is getting very important to have a proper SEO mechanism for your website. For example let's say you have a website called mywebsite.com, now after few months of working of your website another website crops up i.e. mywebsite.org and then mywebsite.info, mywebsite.net follow. Now to be in the competition and to excel it you must do something so as to shine out amongst the other similar website.

Now what you do to make your website shine out amongst the rest is known as SEO!
