Buy my own domain[fixed]

davidv
I'm wondering if it were possible for me to buy my own domain (from some other place) and have you guys host it. If so, could you give me details on how to get it setup? I know I can cash in 350 coins and get a GoDaddy coupon but after recent news of people transferring out of GoDaddy to other hosting services (72,000 actually) due to their support for SOPA, I figured... maybe I shouldn't.

There is some info about it in the thread below. Key is to change the name servers in your domain so that they are Frihost Nameservers. You can find the Frihost Nameservers in your Account. Then you have a choice of parking the domain or adding it through your cPanel. I parked mine. You usually have to give it 48 hours (more or less) for the new DNS (Name Server) settings to come into effect:

I've used http://www.domainsite.com/ quite successfully in the past if you're looking for a solid place for a domain. I'm using .co.cc right now waiting for the right time to cash in some coins. Once I do I'll try out the GoDaddy option.

Oh, thanks for the link. I'll have a read.

I would recommend NameCheap if you want to register it yourself. We only pick GoDaddy because that's the only one that works with gift cards (at least that I found).

Yep. I have a few other friends recommending NameCheap too.

Just wanted to say I bought a domain from NameCheap.com just now and I managed to get it setup such that it's hosted by Frihost.

Anyway, here's the site that I'll be developing for the next few weeks if anyone is interested.
