Hi,
Im interested in replacing commercial software with freeware.
So what free software are you using for web developing:
Photoshop: ...
Dreamweaver: ....
Flash: ....
Zend Studio: ....
FTP: ...
Other: ...
Also looking for free replacments:
Macro sheduler, Girder.
GIMPNVUSVGLot's of advanced text editorsFilezilla
Photoshop: SLR camera and your friendly darkroom
Dreamweaver: figure out something from your pc
Flash: a cassette/cd player/recorder, vidcam and your hands
Zend Studio: a notebook and a pen
FTP: Your local postoffice
Other: your intellectual mind. Its free to use. Make the most out of it.
This is just for fun. Not intended to insult anybody ok?
I have used Web Builder it's free and wysiwyg!
There are also some pretty smart CMS systems that can remove the need for some of the tools you list. The Open Source Nucleus is my favourite and there is a beginner's guide to how to use it at http://www.homecomputermagazine.com/ (starts Issue 4).

That is great!By any way, they really make user feel free using them. There are a lot of serious unsafe things. Professionals prefer commercial products because it is good for there works.
No offence but, I prefer commercial software because it has warranty and more reliable and also has more function.
Opensource is good but sometims bugs can crash or even destroy you pc....not worth the risk!
Actually, open-source softwares have more functions (since everybody can add one), have less bug (since everybody can detect and repport them or even correct them), and same waranty than closed source softwares (since even for them, there're no warranty.)
"Opensource is good but sometims bugs can crash or even destroy you pc....not worth the risk!"
If you've never had any commercial software that did this, you are lucky.

Well, heres what I do before I buy a software:
1) Ask a computer shop a reliable software
2) Ask my frens who have tried the software
3) Make a surver through the net
When I am sure that a sofware has no bugs and works effectively...then i will buy it....

You will never buy any software.
Open source is generally better in many arenas because it's made by people that use the software.

Well, I respect ur opinion but I still think that commercial software is better coz we're paying for it....

I take my hat (in a proverbial sense. I don't actually have a hat) off to you sir. That is almost exactly what I would have said, this is after all exactly the setup I used in my 'trailer trash' days. The creme de la creme of freeware.

There is many free software that do their job well. But not all soft have good free replacment. Im using commercial software only if cannot find good freeware, because i must do the job, not play with soft to get it working.
I had tried to install NVU without luck few months ago. Going to try again.
quanta plus
the best non visual editor for free software.
the gimp for ever
and for Ftp i preffer gFTP.
| guaxa wrote: | | and for Ftp i preffer gFTP. | Yes, me too. But it's not available on win32
(So it doesn't really answer the question...)

Using gFTP too, but im addicted by SmartFTP so looking something similar. it may be Linux or Windows soft (working with wine
FreshFTP and FreshUI are really good, free, Win32 FTP and Tweaking software. CoffeeCup HTML Editor (I found it at download.com) is a good HTML editor.
GIMP is a free alternative to Photoshop.
Filezilla and Novell NetDrive are great FTP programs
As far as actual page design, I'm all for coding by hand. None of that WYSIWYG stuff. Give me Notepad and a web browser to see my work in, and I'm good, though there are better programs then Notepad. I strongly recommend Notepad2 or Crimson Editor, both of which color-code your code, making it alot easier to read!
an addon: Notepad++ or Alleycode for page editors (not wysiwyg)

yes! thats all good choices!!
i have a 30 trial copy of dreamweaver but i also have can get a stolen serial for it and norm i dont mind for smaller programs or games that are around 15 bucks but considering how expensive this is i dont think ill risk it they probally have it where it gives them feedback on it so i dont feel like going to jail for it so if you come out with your version that would be great

I don't do graphics so I can't say anything for Photshop, same with flash. I havn't heard of Zend Studio. For FTP will just repeat Filezilla. I use CSE HTML Validator for editing my pages.
For the FTP, I use filezilla which is very good.

uhhhh ok, pay me $200 and I'll send you a copy of GIMP lol
wow there are a lot of filezilla users here, will have to check out. I personally use LeechFTP and love it. Its not being developed anymore but is free and availible for download on the web.
BitBeamer is suppose to be its successor and is available free on the web, but not sure if it's still being developed since it looks like the old domain name is up for sale.

In vietnam, so many people use this software on their purpose.

NNT
A good replacement for DW is !stPage, http://www.evrsoft.com
It is a clone of Homesite 5, however, it does not do WYSIWYG very nicely.
what is svg? is it that scalable vectr graphics thing? im interested because i want to use flash but don't got the cash to buy it. is there an opensource freeware thign that'll do the same thing?
I think I cannot say Freeware but can say U some other program I use and are Much more better
Photoshop: I think it is the best But Ulead PhotoImpact also works
Dreamweaver: Microsoft Frontpage is good, cool and easy to use
Flash: It is good
