Firefox does not like my webpage...

Dark_Jedi06
Darn it all. >_< I downloaded FF so I could see how my website looks in other browser...it was terrible, the images took forever to load, most of the stuff was pushed around, my HR tags wouldn't show, some of the links were difficult to click, and some of the colors randomly changed.

Quickly, everyone switch to IE... Brick wall

Well what should I do now...Firefox has become like the new black in terms of web browsing. d'oh!

Edit: Whew...I downloaded Opera and it looked almost perfect, only a word or two pushed around...though my HR tags still don't show.

This is why its best to test compatiblity right from the ground up.. Right from adding your tables / css you should check in every browser.. This way you'll know what bits to change to prevent the messing up.

Now your in the position your in you have to establish which parts of the code are causing the problems and fix them.. Firefox is also less forgiving of errors so its worth downloading a html cleaner and perhaps a program that goes through your code and points out errors (there are such things)

I recommend: http://www.w3.org/People/Raggett/tidy/

Its called HTML Tidy and if the giant W3C approve i don't know what else to say.

Hope this helped. Welli

OK, for starters, validate your code. If your code is valid, it will work on all browsers.

Tips for validation:

1: NO TABLES, use CSS
2: End ALL of your tags <br />, <img alt="name" border="1" src="/image.jpg />

Thanks for the compliment. Mr. Green Though this validating is going to take some work...

Hmm not sure if it's FF's fault that pics load slowly ..
Do you use a program to make your site ? Or code it yourself ?
kain
Firefox does that on a lot of sites. I hate it

I found it just as slow loading in IE as in Firefox. In fact, Firefox loaded the page more successfully than IE. Couldn't get IE to load the banner or the big skyscraper image on the right side at all.

Dark_Jedi is using the HTML 4.01 Transitional DOCTYPE so this is incorrect. Break tags should be written as: <br>

The W3C validator is perfectly capable of validating HTML 4.0 doctypes if they're stated as such. What might help the validator though is using this line in the document head:

Code:
<META http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=ISO-8859-1">

Thanks for that, littlegiant. I have been trying to figure out the correct code for it for a while now.

Not sure what was implied by this expression. Does this mean Firefox is good or bad?
