Worst interview EVER..

The_unnamed_label
Two weeks ago, I went to an interview in central London for a "Marketing position" junior/entry level type...
the offer was very interesting because of the range of activities described...
The company looked very "cool" and young minded so I applied.
Later the same day I got a phone call asking me if I would like an interview the next morning etc...
Of course my reaction was "yes of course polite blah blah" (****** yeah!)
The lady I got on the phone specified what was obvious, but all candidate needed to turn up in business attire etc.... fair enough
So I arrive at the building and as soon as I go through the door a guy welcomes me very nicely and talks very friendly and takes me to the offices, where I'm surprised to find music LOUD and only very cute smiley people...
But I think... oh well... it's a Marketing agency... its London....
Next step, I get invited to join a boardroom and meet the "owner" of the company... she presents herself as a successful young boss and introduces the company as one of the best on the market.
So far, so good....
After 10 mins of blah blahs... she asks me and my fellow candidates to introduce ourselves quickly and give her 2 reasons to be the ONE she would hire... So I do....
but then she says to all of us... "right thank you, I cant take a decision today but you will receive a phone call later on, and we will let you know if you go through"....
and she basically tells us to leave...

Once home I get a phone call and get told that "the boss was impressed by your presentation and would like to meet you again tomorrow morning, don't forget your business attire"
Obviously happy, off I go to the interview the following day..

Second day starts with another boss presenting the company saying the same list of amazing results they made over the last 4 years blah blah...
and as a great, fast pace and young company they think we should see how people work and will allocate us "tutors" for the day....
I forgot to say the second interview is a 20 candidates boardroom....

So I get this guy as a tutor and first thing he says is "ok we will go out the office somewhere else in London and I will tell you abouot the job on the way"...
I think... oh well... why not... but weird..
He also says, "lets have lunch, the company pays"
So I say I'm alright but ok.... he orders food... I order a coffee... and once at the cashier he tells me "oh dear I forgot I dont have cash... I'll be right back, please wait here"...
Im therefore left in front of the cashier that asks me for money... so I pay.... and the "tutor" never paid me back...
But then he says we have to hurry and we jump on a train to the London suburb and once there the guy simply puts on a badge of so charity organisation and starts door to door....
So I say WHAT thats not what we were supposed to do etc... and after a while I leave.... and obviously I didnt go further with that company that misleads candidates like this...

But as if it wasnt enough.... the guy calls me later on my phone and asks if I made it home safely... (which 1. isnt is business and 2. was a pain cause I had to walk in the dark and cold for more than 2 Kms given all trains were suspended that night on that line...)
He asks me to call him later and say when Im home etc... which I didnt obviously...
But then the same guys texts me and says basicallly that he is sorry he had to bullshit me about the job and that maybe "we could go out for a drink or something?"
O.o NO
following weekend.... he texts again asking for news....

So in the end... I lost money for commute, I lost my time, I was disappointed and mislead... and I got a creepy man calling/texting me...

GREAT!

that happened in London too? in malaysia, once you realize what the job is and you want to quit, they just tell you f**k off and never bother to check on you (maybe it's good?). but i never heard story of you have to pay for your food and transport. usually they don't forget their wallet. but you have to find your own way back from middle of nowhere when you want to quit. now it's not so bad with mobile phone just call a taxi. but 15 years ago, you might have to walk 10km.

Maybe you should have gone back to the company and reported it to the owner, and asked for what exactly you are supposed to be doing there?

Personally, I'm not good at interviews. I always stammer and stutter and forget what I'm supposed to say.

I once went for an interview in Dubai, where during the course of the interview, the HR manager said that he can get me to do anything he wanted, and after a while, tried to convince me to stand on my head... which I didn't, of course.. but he put it in a way that almost made me think of doing it... He went on with reverse psychology, and when I got up to go out, he thought I was going to stand on my head, and even said ok, since you cant listen to anyone (or the customer is always right), I can't get the job. I said I didnt need the job, but I kind of got angry instead of keeping cool and calm.

I meant... I find it absolutely inappropriate that the guy called me to ask me out... wasn't professional at all!! I think that should NEVER happen...

Yeah it was in London.. and tbh the more I think of it the more I think that they allow themselves to be total d**kheads cause they know some people will sign up anyway... they have a massive turnover.

and yeah indeed, good job I could talk to my dear friend, cause I felt reassured thanks to him.... even though, walking alone by night in the middle of nowhere when you're a woman and alone isn't so great... mobile or not.

I did report to company to that work ads place and said it was a scam offer etc.... but I guess its a drop in the sea really... and they keep offering the same position over and over again...

Job interviews are a pain really.... they ask you random questions that lead nowhere most of the time and really... when you read articles about recruitment it shows how stupid those questions are...
I mean on a psychological aspect, if those interview were made by specialist asking them, then that would make sense cause they would know what they want and where they wanna take you.... but lets face it... most recruiters are actually nonsense guys that picked up random questions that sound good... and you have no idea how many time I had to face people that had no clue about the job they were recruiting me for.... (I am a legal executive and now converting to marketing btw)

about the psycho test.. I once tried the Air Traffic Controller exam in Geneva Switzerland.... and that was done by specialist.... I found it super interesting... Even if I felt like they put my brain in a blender and pressed the button on!!! haha

your interview in Dubai sounds as bad as mine..... I think its almost humiliation to ask a candidate such things.... that is absolutely crazy...

do you have a job now?
