Greece has a New Unelected Prime minister.

Possum
Hi

I'm just trying to get my facts right about Lucas Papademos

Hes is unelected. So how did he get appointed?
Is his position normally voted for?
The previous prime minister was going to have a referendum. What was it about..

Thank you....

I believe in Parliamentary democracy, you don't have to be an elected member of parliament to become Prime Minister - you merely have to be chosen by the members of the parliament.
Hello_World
According to Wikipedia, he was not formerly an elected MP, so no, he has not been elected.

Also according to Wikipedia, Greece's democracy looks a lot like Australia's, and probably NZ's, usually the PM is an elected MP and the members of parliament decide which elected MP will be PM, usually the leader of the majority party.

So, I may be wrong, but this looks a lot like they are stepping outside the normal bounds of their democracy.
