Just viewed the last episode of Simon Reeve's Travels along the Tropic of Capricorn. The episode I saw was the last leg of his journey from Laos to Hawaii. What an education it has been. Particularly worrisome are loads of the debris from the Pacific Ocean finding their way to Hawaii's beaches and it the debri have been plastered on some of the islands' beaches to the extent that some of it has become embedded. Also quite upsetting is the cruel treatment of bears in Hanoi where they are caged for as long as 20 years and their gall bladders milked for bile. Very amazing however how capitalism is beginning to show its face in the Golden Triangle, North Vietnam and China expanding its trade everywhere. The train journey in Taiwan at a speed of almost 300kph was also fascinating. Has to be a unique experience.
