Tell me about Life as you know it

Sitting on the couch, with my guitar in my hand(a rare scene) I was thinking the other day, about what life is all about and what's the point of doing just about anything which is not on your list of favourite things to do.

As a student in India, I have been going to coaching classes for the past 2 years. 7 hours in the morning went to school education, and then the consecutive 7 went to the coaching. And after all that time gone by, I realise now, that there's just no point doing things this way. I could have easily learned and mastered a few programming languages in the duration I spent in those PCM evening classes, or maybe learnt some uniquely difficult guitar techniques.. but instead I have been 'preparing' for stupid entrance examinations to colleges, where I have a 1.25% chance of getting into.

I think that the whole purpose of getting into college is just to get a job, a job that gives money, money that in turn will be used to buy a house, and basic entities.. but I really just hate the entire system. I was born on a piece of land that fortunately/unfortunately was inside the boundaries of a 'country', a division of Earth, called India. Now, to live in this country, I must spend my time studying, so that I can get a good 'salary' which will help me simply 'live' in the country. I can't go to other even neighbouring parts of the world, without having the appropriate documentation and money(again something I get from my job). I have been restricted to move about. And finally, when it all finishes, when someday I get older, I'll die, and all that I ever did or for that matter didn't do will become insignificant... So.. What am I supposed to do in life? Do something that I don't like for 30 years, just so that I can live the ~40 I have left with pleasure and comfort, or do something I love and be tormented socially, and doomed in so many ways... or should I just kill myself now, and move ahead?(I'm not going to commit suicide lol, just talking figuratively) after all, I will die someday, won't I?

What do you think? I'm not really asking what I should do, I'm asking what you think life is about and the reason or way to live it by.

Probably everyone questions their life at some point. Live to work or work to live that is the question? I owe, I owe, so off to work, I must go!
Everyone needs appropriate documentation to visit other countries so you are not alone there unless you want to be illegal.

I think life is about the journey, more than the goal posts, although the goal posts add spice to everything. I'd think it is about making the best of every opportunity that comes to you every day, and just to go full out for it. I think you mentioned studying medicine and that sounds like a great profession and a wonderful opportunity. Hope it works out for you.

Actually I'm not studying medicine.. I was initially, but I realised it was just not for me!
I'm now aiming for engineering, that too computer programming related, because that is something that really drives me!

Sounds great .... any idea what programming you're going to aim for? Or is it a bit early to tell?

Life is beautiful. Its not the time to be worried for future without enjoying the present. We should enjoy and go forward for the beautiful future.

Here are some possible paths.

Dream -> Vision -> Goals -> Work -> Achievement

Laziness -> Luck -> Job -> Mediocrity

Cheat -> Lie -> Manipulate -> Power

Steal -> Work the System -> Money

Creativity -> Art -> Starving Artist

Try not to be the one who just deals with day to day problems. Take the time to get to know your own heart. Your question is a great one. What mark do you want to leave on the world? Have short, medium, and long term goals. Let nothing deter you from what you care about.

Good luck

Excellent post Schyllic. I like it! I'm a mixture of being lazy and a dreamer, and the point about laziness is spot on. I don't cheat and I don't steal. I do have creative moments but I am not a starving artist.
