Two Computer on a Network one Drops its Internet Connection

Possum
Hi

I have Two Computers on a Network one Drops its Internet Connection. To fix this I turn my system off and on again.

What methods can I use to trouble shoot this problem.

I have a switch and a Dlink DSL-502T Modem router.

Thank you!
Marcuzzo
are you using DHCP or static IP addresses?
you may also want to log on to your router and see which IP addresses are being leased to the PC's.
instead of rebooting the PC you can also try to release and renew your IP address
open a command prompt window and type=
>ipconfig/release
>ipconfig/renew
als mayby flush your dns... >ipconfig/flushdns

I've got a batchfile for that
open a notepad and save this as IPrenew.bat on your desktop or anywhere actualy
with the following text
Code:
@echo off
ipconfig/release
ipconfig/renew
ipconfig/flushdns

What is a Batch File?

Is it a way of running a series of commands in the command prompt window with out opening it

Thank you..

A batch file is pretty much what you described-it automatically runs a set series of commands when you run it like a .exe. As for your problem, if that batch file doesn't solve the problem, it might be something that isn't particularly simple to fix. I've seen some network cards randomly stop working until the computer gets restarted-if that's the case, you could try getting a USB network card, which should solve the problem. Another possible cause is Windows itself if you're using that. Sometimes it chooses to do odd things that you can't really control-a reinstall should fix that.

I still had a net connection but decided to run the above batch file for the first time. My browsing seems to be way faster .. I am just imagining this.. ?

thx
