What is SSL or Secured Socket Layer about?
I'm on a project and my teacher asked me to use SSL for my said project which is programmed using JSP as its source code.
It is an online billing system for a real estate.
Why should I use SSL? And how to use it?
Please help me, thanks?

WTF??? SSL is a security feature for server transactions and has got nothing to do with JSP. In fact it is a kind of protocol. SSL provides endpoint authentication and communications privacy over the Internet using cryptography. In typical use, only the server is authenticated (i.e. its identity is ensured) while the client remains unauthenticated; mutual authentication requires PKI deployment to clients. The protocols allow client/server applications to communicate in a way designed to prevent eavesdropping, tampering, and message forgery. JSP is for Server Side Scripting. Check more on SSL here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secure_Sockets_Layer

Thanks for the reply! I appreciate it!
But since SSL is just a protocol, I can use it in a jsp developed site right?
Thanks for the link also, I enjoyed reading what's there! Very Happy

I have read that SSL Certification should be purchased for a site to use in online transactions with the use of credit card. Is there a site where we can get this one for free? I'll be using it to develop a site for my capstone project and I don't have money to purchase one.
