Design with no images

medesignz
I am currently in a horrid state with my ISP, so have a mobile internet usb hooked up to my home comp.

It has given me second thoughts on all my site designs, as I have images turned off unless I oblige them on my browser.

It makes me focus on how others may see my website without images, and it makes the running of my site fairly fast and not so cluttered.

Has anyone else ever used this approach?

No I haven't, but this must be as close as dammit to what you need to focus on when you design Websites for mobile phones. Throw out Flash, be minimalist with use of photos and decorations.

Very Happy

Agreed, and its making all my sites run alot faster...

CSS is great Smile

for mobiles keep site as simple as possible
few images and less or none flash
on slower connection this will make your site load easier

I dont think there is the need for any imagery on a mobile site at all except for ads, branding and photos.

Of course... But if ads are needed, I think imagery would be preferred to text

Hm, that really depends on the layout.

If the layout is already image heavy, then I'd prefer text ads. If the layout is already text heavy, then I'd prefer image ads, as it would help for contrast.

Though most ads are just annoying, get in the way and can confuse people. So even though ads are simple and sometimes obvious, they do need to be carefully thought out, especially for placement.

Agreed, but the point I was making was ads for a mobile design...
