New Space Hotel Coming From Russia

wallarookiller
A private Russian company is opening up a hotel in space and they say that it will be open by 2016. The price of a five day stay including the trip will run about $800,000 making it a place that only the very rich will be able to afford.

Pretty intense stuff especially since the same company that is taking guests to the hotel is the same one that just crashed a supply cargo shipment to the international space station a few days ago.

Sounds very nice but I got a few questions

1) What happens if you get hit by an asteroid?
2) Why would you pay so much for a trip when you can buy a house or four and rent them out
3) Yea why?

Note that are sarcastic but serious questions.. I would never do it. Actually I could never afford it!

1) The chances of being hit by an asteroid are pretty much the same on earth as in space.
2) People have already paid much more to get into space
3) Because they want to.

it's amazing.

Amazing tech, even though yes I did expect it in my lifetime. They are saying NO ALCOHOL Sad , it's probably for the best though... drinking a nice cocktail through a straw in space? *Awwww yeah*

Does anyone know if plants grow in zero g? Laughing

Sounds amazing, I certainly don't have the money though! Even if I did, I wouldn't be too keen on trusting my life to something Russian made...:p

The Americans have had more space flight accidents than the Russians.

I'm sure they do, though perhaps they may grow in strange shapes, and some more complex plants might not grow as well.

Russians can make extremely reliable machines when they put effort into it...
They understand the link between simplicity and reliability.

It's interesting.

It's a step for people to live in space.

Hopefully they can get the money and use it to build affordable transportation to space and affordable housing in space for more people to visit and to stay.

It is a very good news.

You have to take the amount of space flights too. Cause if the americans have twice the crashes as the russians but have four times more launches. The russian flights are still twice as dangerous...

Here is an updated article:

There is also an American effort to put a hotel in space which looks like it might be serious, and there are two or three others that have been mentioned. At the moment, it looks like this idea will always be four or five years away (although there was one reference to 2020, is it possible that might even be realistic?

While space tourism would be a major revenue producer for the proposed Russian station, they do list a number of other uses for it. The Russians graciously gave up their Mir station, partly in order to free resources for development of ISS. They were given the right to bring space tourists there in return, but that hasn't worked out well over the long term. I would like to see them be successful with a new station of Russian origin; I think the fact that it would be private instead of government-sponsored would be even more a source of national pride.

They make much more reliable stuff for cheaper. NASA use old Russian Soyuz shuttles to send their people into space for decades now. The reason it's cheaper and also those old Soyuz ships are more reliable than Billion Dollar shuttles NASA made. Well not a single None Russian Astronaut died from an accident since they have started use so that shows how reliable their stuff is.

Now the interesting thing is you will trust your life with NASA shuttles ?

It is a neat idea. For people who love space like us, and who can afford the almost million dollar pricing, this would be the ultimate vacation destination. Imagine, being in space and rotating the earth. It would be quite exciting. You would stare out of the window and there you will see the blue planet. Man, I wish I could afford it.
