Hey guys,

Is there a way I can connect to mysql with the Mysql Workbench, I have tried several ways but with no luck, I get a "access denied" error.

I'm sorry for bumping this but I was just browsing through the topics and found it strange that this question was not answered.

anyway. the way to do this is to allow access to your host, not your actual machine, but your access host.

if you try to connect to your DB via mySQL workbench you'll get an error like:
Error Message from MySQL WorkBench wrote:

[Window Title]
MySQL Workbench

[Main Instruction]
Failed to Connect to MySQL at [SERVER]:[PORT] with user [USERNAME]

[Content]
Access denied for user '[USER]'@'[HOST]' (using password: YES)

[OK]

You can Add hosts and/or wildcards in directadmin.
Go to DirectAdmin and select "MySQL Management", select your database.

At this point you've got 2 options.
1. You add your access host to the 'Access Hosts' list
-> you can use the [HOST] string from the error message

2. You grant rights to every host by adding a wildcard '%'

see http://help.directadmin.com/item.php?id=308

once you've added the host you can access your database with MySQL Workbench or equivalent.
