I'm not saying, I'm just saying, it's prolly not a good idea to put the entire site as flash. Nor the main content. Lots of people don't/won't see it.
If you want to use flash in your actual website you'll be best of just doing navigation in flash and then alting in a imagemap. Alt is your friend.
a few flash parts is ok, like banner or menu. not the whole site. bad for seo.
but u see like major websites like the official site for psp it uses flash n it is cool. advent children official is also damn cool and it is also using flash. but there r a few probs which i hope u guys can help me out. it is how to like put in a text file so tt i can in future juz edit the text file and it would also change the website content. thx
Many times I have wanted to do my site all in Flash, but it was a daunting task. I lost patience and interest haf way in the few times I tried, because it was just so overwhelming. If you want to undertake the project, and know enough Flash, go for it. bt if you are doing the WHOLE site in Flash, give the user and option of viewing an HTML version ofthe site, say, on the splash page. That way those who don't want to/can't see Flash will still be able to see your site. It will just be without all the bells and whistles

lol yeh.. Flash is fast becoming a pain in the arse only used by adverts these days. Oh and those (normally) crappy little movie sites.
I think making the entire site in flash is just a form to make it more professional, but the reality is that the only thing they do, is that the site gets more slow and some people can't see it correct or have flash unavailable
I dont see anything bad about using Flash for the whole site, of course not overdo it with all those "wanna be cool" effects that at the end will only slow it down. And about dynamic content there are various options like PHP+DB or text files or my favourite XML, its entirely up to you.
Yep some ppl have flash turned off and keep trashtalking it till its boring and really argueless but you cant fight those, my opinion is do as you like.

Doesn't seem to be loading ..
dont work
kkz thx for u ppl comments i have decided it was hard so i juz did a flash banner quite cool lor. the pic was editted by gimp while the flash on it was by me
I've found that is very difficult to construct an entire site out of Flash, simply because of it's time consuming issues. You must first know that I'm not the most experianced in Flash, although I'm fairly proficient in the animation area, I have not taken the time to learn the proper techniques needed to build an entire interactive piece from the program alone. It's time consuming and over-all a pain in the butt to manage. I do, however, love to create my intro's in flash, because they are so dynamic looking. Navigation and creative headers also look good, but I suggest keeping the content of the site in HTML, as all browsers will read that, ha.
If you do have the skills in Flash to build an entire site in it, it's a must to provide a splash page with a link to an HTML version of the site. I know most professional designed webpages for...well, everything, are made in Flash but I also know that not all browsers support it and it causes trouble for some users. For example, my home computer(Running on XP with SBC Yahoo! DSL) loads Flash perfectly smoothly, my computer at school(running Windows ME, or a simplistic version of XP prehaps, with Internet Explorer) is not so kind. It does not support Flash loading, and thus will ask in a pop up for me download Flash, if you click no the page simply won't load. A yes answer will lead the computer to crash because it's security won't allow it to load. Phew. There are so many pros and cons of Flash that I'm sure every designer could write a leanghty argument for either side. It's a toss up, and all depends on how much time and skill you have and the goal you are trying to accomplish. I've never created a site in Flash, thus it has challanged me to reach the same calliber of professionalism through an HTML site. Of course, I'm a code girl, through and through. So it might just be my preference to use HTML, heh.
flash is ok but it takes awhile for it to load with some people and some people dont have macromedia flash player. and for everything else i agree with 13thCINDERELLA
kkz i noe tt liao, hmmz anyway now i also found out tt intro can use html too. though it is nt as pro as flash but it is still alrite lor.
arghh. I HATE flash-based sites. They are so annoying. Never make a flash-site. Maybe a banner but nothing more. Nobody likes flash xD
It said that it could not be found... oh well. I dont use flash... I have no idea how it works anyways.
yaman very true i agree with all of you all
the site this off here
I didn't get to open
I prefer to use php html and js
thank you

I don't agree with a lot of the anti-Flash comments. I do agree that it is annoying when people over do it with flash. I think that it totally depends on the content you are trying to display, the purpose of your site, and probly most importantly your target audience. flash isn't right for most content on the web, especially when dealing with dynamic content. but for a small portfolio or gallery to display your work, flash can be effective. If you're just trying to show off how much animation you can cram into one site, you will lose a lot impatient visitors. but I like flash if its used right. just my 2 cents
If your content is primarily flash then a flash site is ok.
i do agree you should know what your site is for and who your target audience would be.. based on experience most "oldies" prefer static pages like reading the newspaper..most of the "younger" ones prefer animation with uncommon effects like watching the matrix or playing a game for interactivity...for flash users never forget to insert the "skip" button this is quite helpful to avoid or skip the monotonous animations and "less is more" which means do not overdo. this is for all of us not only for the flash users.. have you ever seen a site full of animated GIF's??
it's up to you to imagine.. that's where flash comes in. ^_^
the url doesn't work:(
wad url?
i think he meant the tutorial you had posted in your first post of this topic
i find flash sites cool. yes advent children official is really awesome, so is the the harry potter official.
but after reading your views, im beginning to find that having a whole flash site isnt a good idea after all.
thanx

Hello everyone !
Well, First of all, the site dosen't work
But anyway...
Let's talk alitlebit about flash...
It depends on your internet connection... I have a 56k dialup and... its really slow to open flash documents (Not that slow since I've found an image loading accelerator ...) But the site look so profesionnal when it build on flash... The only thing is that I'm not a flash specialist and I dont know how to made a site 100% flash... but it looks so nice in it, because you can put so much annimations, but anyway...
Depends for who your site is designed, you should think about others users, will they love flash or not ?
Hope it helps you!
Tommy.

How bad is the seo hit if you are using flash. I want to desing my sites in flash, but have decided against it only based on the seo consideration.
The link does not work . Flash can make a website look outstanding . Eg . http://www.neave.com . Enable Flash and Take a look .
oic i shall check tt website out lor and perhaps it could work for me ?
I use flash only, whe i need to add image effects to a text or add some action in the banner. Or to compress movies for web to save some bandwidth, but hell i would never do a flash site. Not worth it.The interactivity may look cool, but is solw-and i hate to wait if i visit a site.I want to get ot the content immeadly. And not to watch the screen loading over 3min.
EDITED:Neave.com is a good example for a light flash site. It's not full flash only soem part of it,which looks fair enough. But a full site in flash, why bother if you can make a good site much faster and with less work.

Flash is a pain in ass. It takes ages to load - i have 8Megabit Cable but in Australia where I live many are still on dialup 56Kbit. Flash looks cool for a little while but it soon bacomes painful
DONT USE FLASH!!!
DONT USE FLASH!!!
I think that Flash is powerfull for making parts of the web sites. However, it is not practical because we don't have total control of right click. I miss option OPEN IN NEW WINDOW!!!
On this page you will find links to Cool Flash-Sites: http://www.chooseindia.com/coolflashsites.html
Well I want to make a book that you click the cover of and it opens itself. I can't find an example of what I mean. I have no changed the frame rate and it's much smoother, yet I still have to create a spine and also work out how to make it interactive!
take a look to this one http://www.vectorpark.com/
Just tried it myself - very reasonable at $5, & documentation is good.
However, the feature I most wanted (wordWrap) doesn't work well. If I have a cell with 3 lines of text, only the first two lines display. However, the moment I use the grid's scroll bar, the 3rd line appears!
I also quite miss the gradient fill offered by MM in their DataGrid, and would have switched entirely to Darren's DataGrid were it not for that.... Actually I'm still not quite sure, as the MM grid is so awful and incomplete to use!

the best way to use flash in sites is to make an intro or first page in flash. only the first one and it should look like a smal presentation, much like flash templates you can find anywhere. everything that is clicked on this presentation should open a new HTML page. flash is nice and I like it a lot but it has many bad's for makeing a full site in flash (no right mouse click, no bookmark pages, no save images,... etc.).

I have one point for you about making flash websites... dont, If you are trying to get a wide audience, you shouldnt make flash websites, although it is cleaner that html or css, for people like me who dont have a fast internet connection, it would be hard to load the pages. Keep that in mind.
wah makin a flash website seems real hard can any1 tell mi how? hgtl can teach me? i noob lol. teach mi how to make this flash website, do we use a program or do u actually do it urself. or do u have a template or do you have a website which teaches u how to do it.
Well if you really want to know, you can use programs like MX Flash. I dont know how much it is or if there is a free program out there somewhere but I know you have to use a flash program to make it.
um y e owner like dun answer these post one
I disagree with all those anti flash comments, I think flash websites look cool if their done properly.
Hi
In my opinion there are better ways to make pages. The real advantege of flesh is that you dont have to care about the browsers of your customers... But i prefer CMS / PHP and HTML and a little JS
greetz

just make a small flash animation on top or the side of your site
not a good idea to make a whole site out of it
if u want google to pick up your site as well, google won't read flash stuff
so content-wise, don't use flash and write it in HTML in paragraphs
i like flash, i can do quite a bit of fancy stuff with it
it would make any site look great if you are creative and artistic with it
i would put the flash with height dimension of 100px-200px and wide enough to cover your monitor screen if its placed on the top of the site
or
width dimension of 100px-200px on the side of the site and however vertically long you want
make sure that the viewer see the text content and decorations on their monitor screen without scrolling so much
blah blah blah i dont care i just want my frihost points

Flash can be very useful if you know what your doing. I started working with it a few months ago making simple movies and sometimes tweens just don't work and you can't tell why. Anyway I've seen some amazing websites and animations.
well.. with flash you can create nice websites or spice your website with it but there is one problem.. usually when you create a flash website, the meaning of the website itself disappears and visitors only play with your site..
For those of us who aren't making a living out of our websites and just want to put up a personal site then IMHO Flash is perfectly acceptable.
Visual QuickProject produce a small book called Creating a Web Site with Flash. It is a good simple introduction to the topic.
I found it helpful in explainign an easy way to develop a navigation system in a flash document.
There are some good sites showing how to link php, mysql and flash together which allows a very scalable website.

omg tt neave website realli roxs
Flash can be very powerful. I've made a few sites entirely out of flash. Problems with that is...it takes a hell of alot of time to contstruct. Actionscript is one of the most ass backwards languages out there. Usually when I make all flash sites, I have a remote php script process the needed variables for the dynamic parts of the site and just have flash export and import the variables to and from those scripts. Actionscript was never really meant for large amounts of data processing, just for movie manipulation and base processes.
As a result I mix everything together since I don't want to spend the time, or sanity, in creating another total flash website. You can make them look very spiffy though...just gotta know what you're doing and be patient.

As all technologies flash have advantages and disadvantages. Using it or not is a matter of convenience and accuraty with what you want to achieve.
If you have to dessign a visually attractive site, with a lot of animations, and much more images than text, and if isn't not likely that you have to redesign the site very often you may find Flash very accurate. Also Flash websites look the same in all web browsers.
You may also want to dessign single elements of a website by using flash (menues, image galleries, e.a.) and then integrate them into your site.

but i feel that flash in a website is still the website cuz its like a whole different approach towards ppl nt like a plain website like every1 but urs would stand out among the rest of the ppl
Flash has been the new 'hip' for a couple of years, though, I've never really been able to peek into every nook and cranny of it.
Still, my youth club requires me to design stuff this semester, and I have no idea what to do with anything that isn't Photoshop or Dreamweaver MX.
*gulp*
I....think i'll hang around here for some time.

as i realise there are cons to using it there are more pros!

1) It is an additional plugin not always installed
2) For some browsers, it simply isn't an option
3) For some devices (PDAs, phones, etc), it simply isn't an option
4) Slow computers get even slower with Flash
5) Flash sites seem more prone to less content and more, well, flash
I was looking at building a site in flash only but it seems the best idea is to have a little of both
well, i'm interested to create a flash banner to use on my site, do you guys know any site wherein I can create one, my site is so simple and plain that its boring, I want to atleast spice it up with a cool animated flash banner.

That has been said for soooo many years. Maybe. Maybe not. Maybe something better will come along.
yeah website in flash is very nice n so cool

i want to use flash in my web later, but i can not using flash
but using flash for the whole website would be tough. i have downloaded some of the samples you know websites give out and they are totally tough to understand. its like you have to learn how to use actionscript to link the text to the text document so that it the text document changes, the text shown on the flash would also change along. therefore i would recommend people to only create flash banners and those sorta stuff and not the entire thing fully made up of flash. but its my own personal idea you may still be able to do it
My site is totally made in flash.......hmmmm maybe its not a proper full blown bells and whistles site but it suits my purposes
