I'm not sure exactly what you're asking here, but I would say that if you (as some hosts provide) get a choice between a Linux/Unix or Windows-based server, I would choose Windows. No matter what people say, yes, Unix and Linux are more stable, but Microsoft makes a great server solution that simply works when applied to the end user. Most users run Windows, which I have found to be most compatible with a Windows server.
