Help needed to choose appropriate server.

My friend and I are planning to host an online game, so we're trying to look for a server now, but we just can't made up our mind on what is the best, so i thought of coming here to ask for help.

When finding for an online game server, what is the most crucial thing?
The memory?
The hard disk RPM?
The processor speed?

We found 2 computers with quite nice specs.

First com:
Intel Pentium 4 Xeon 1.7GHz
1GB DDR SDRAM
36GB SCSI HDD

Second com:
Intel Pentium 4 Xeon 3.06GHz
1GB DDR SDRAM
40GB IDE

Among these two, which would be the best choice for a server to host an online game?

Personally, I have to say the second computer is the one I would choose. it has the same amount of RAM as the first, more hard drive space than the first, and the processor is faster than the first computer. Smile

that HDD is realy nothing now days, the ram is very well good, but i got 2 160 gig HDDs and 40 gigs would not be nearly enough for all my music, games, videos, website stuff, etc. I dont know how 1 could live with a 40 gig HDD. but the second of FO SHO.

Although I don't have too much experience with servers, the first one might not be too bad of a choice either. Mainly because of the SCSI drive which will allow you to access content faster. I don't think the processor speed will make to much of a difference.
