Protecting Phpbb forums?

GoldenEagle
Since the source code for phpbb is so readily available, does it make your site more vulnerable to security issues? I know sites that are hosted by Wordpress or other providers need to be constantly updated.

Actually not.
Since the source code is publicy available, everyone could access the code and edit it to remove security holes.
An example: in 2006, Firefox (open) had 47 security patches and Explorer (closed) "only" 38, but the community fixed Firefox holes in ~1 day, Microsoft spent ~9 days for each bug.
With open source you can check if programs contain viruses, and edit it (if you want) to remove them.
There is no reason to be worried.
