What is your job?

GoldenEagle
I checked really quickly but I didn't see any recent threads about this:

What is your job?

I'll go first. I'm a chemical engineer for a well known company working on cool electrical things. I recently graduated from college and this is my first career. I had to go out and buy all new clothes to supply my new corporate life!
pll
At the moment I'm a sales representative for a cell phone company.

I'm going to start college this year and I can't wait to do stuff like you (I will try to become a Telecommunications / Electrical engineer), I can't wait!

I started out as a telemarketer for a cloud computing service and worked at Best Buy for a few months before landing this job. Dreams do come true!
mengshi200
As an editor and journalist I am focusing on science and technology, environmental protection, energy saving, climat changing, often visiting and interviewing some of domestic areas, even overseas such as some of European countries many times.
mengshi200
I like communicating with all kinds of people.I think I can learn a lot, equal to read a lot.Travel is like reading books. Isn't there a Chinese proverb: Travel for 10,000 Li is better than reading 10,000 books? I have been lucky to travel to many countries for both work and pleasure.
mengshi200
I put a lot of energy and time on may job from. Comparing to the normal people, sometimes I feel bear deep loneliness if I want to make so great programme on may career.
mengshi200
I took part in a conference about environmental protection, having learned a lot, such as how to build and balance the relationship among science, religious, ecology and society, also met some elite people.
mengshi200
Yeah, these conferences are sometimes so boring just as u said but my job is to absorb new ideas or concepts from various peope in these occasion and show to the audiences.I have to do so.However sometimes I feel updated and renovated in my mind.Maybe that is so called the joy of working.
mengshi200
I was invited by BC to met two reporters who come from BBC with some Chinese senior journalists yesterday. We have a wonderful lunch,I mean we are chatting a lot, even forgot eating delicious food.Haha.....
mengshi200
I love my job becos it can let me realize myself, meet new people, broad view, improve knowledge every day, travel to different place both domestic and overseas, although I do not earn huge many from it.I always feel update and promote.
I become more intellegent and confident, even beautiful after many yrs practising.
mengshi200
But sometimes I hate it becos it make me so busy that I have not enough time to go back to university for finishing PhD. programs,to fall into love with sb.At that time I really want to retire in advance.
mengshi200
I am writing a book related environmental protection now.

Writing sth in my spare time I just want to improve my ability. Of course the publisher will pay me after I finished. I do not care about it. Actually I have not ask how many RMB.

The book will focus on environmental protection, including water pollution, sandstorm, acid rain, oil spill, hurricane, ecosystem, and so on. The target readers are the child and the young.
mengshi200
Actually to make complicated issue into simple one is not easy to handle, such as to explain climate change, environmental protection, energy saving to teenagers with funny, attractive way. Obviously it is a chanllenge for me.However I have to face it, otherwise it will be the other one`s turn. I do not give the chance to him.
mengshi200
Recently I crazy about write sth in English. It is fantastic!I mean if I use English to express my ideas and share joy to foreigners though email or chatting I can be identified with them totally. They told me they feel good and attractive to me.They love my words and jokingl, both woman and man.So Great!

Athough from different language,we can understand very well each other.I feel the world is so small like a free kindergarten.I can chat with the people who are in far away places.

Written English is so important for express our self. I will try my best to widen my readers in the future.

Is there anyone who'd really like to answer my questions instead of spamming 14 posts in a row? I mean come on, really?

I was just beginning to be excited since I started a conversation only to find this. Sad

Lol, I know what you mean and I thought the same thing myself!
When you consider that mengshi200 joined Frihost 6 years ago you would think a basic understanding of the rules/guidelines would have developed by now? Wink

Back on topic, I'm in the advice business myself...
Welfare benefits, housing, debt, statutory law, advocacy work etc - miserable and desperate people are my game.
At the moment my client group is mainly people over pension age, but I've spent many a year working with substance dependant, homeless, and/or ex-con's (former convicted prisoners) in my time. Smile

My job is that of a lowly office support worker. Smile

Only as a suggestion, perhaps in the spirit of good-will mengshi2000 you might try clicking on edit on each post. If you copy each post, and paste it into just one post, leaving the remainder of posts empty it might help.

Currently I'm a Wireless Network Sales Engineer for a small company in Boulder Colorado, Intuicom, you can look them up on the web. My specialty is their Broadband product and I do a lot of work in the Traffic industry. The Radios are deployed at intersections where they are unable to run land lines. Most of the major cities are land line networks, but they can't or don't run hard line to every intersection, so the network is filled in with Radios, carrying the data from the cameras and controllers.

Pretty interesting work, I am CCNP certified and now working on CWTS, and eventually CWNP certifications. The thing I like about the IEEE Certs unlike CISCO certs and that they are not vendor specific, and each radio even from different manufacturers will (in theory) work with others.

Anyone heard about the 60GHz project, gig wifi?

I'm a bum I do not have a job.

I am involved in solar panel fitting. I like my job very much because I am involved in that job which is useful for all. Solar energy is free, it costs nothing. It will lasts for whole life of earth. Many of us is involved in chemical and petroleum energy but it is being expensive and the amount of these sources is being decreased. I think it hardly lasts for about 30 years but solar energy is life time source. Nuclear energy is creating many problems from the view point of war. Thermal, wind and other source has specific place but solar energy is present everywhere. So, I think I am involved in a good field, what you think?

I am a software tester! Smile Yes, life is pretty good. I am not required to make the product, nor insure that it's working correctly. I simply try things out and tell them if it's going to break or work for them when they implement it into large complex paper management work flows.

I have a job playing with software because a mistake can cost them so much time and money, but a job well done for me is finding things before they become a problem.

I want to make the next step... games software testing! That would be so cool, and it's kind of crazy for me to spend eight hours testing software at work only to come home and play video games for a few hours... why not start playing video games in the morning and follow it up with a little paperwork in the afternoon? I could really dig that.

I work in an office doing mainly web admin stuff for a film distributor in California. I hate my job, because it's not what I studied or practiced while in college. But the pay is good. I'm trapped!

i did freelance commercial programming for 10+ years with multiple programming languages (cobol? yes i am old) and on multiple platforms (never had a formal education though), then i studied linguistics and started doing some translation jobs too. Then i met my wife who was a graphician in the textile industry, so i started an office for her so that she could work at her own office. She said it could be wonderful if we could print her designs on t-shirts to show them to her customers, so i stopped programming and started silk screen printing. I learned to use some software like coreldraw, photoshop&illustrator and started designing tshirts myself. After 6 years of designing and printing tee's, i am trying to get back to programming. I am planning to do some small games for the android platform.

I kinda like it, but I kinda miss my old position, garden center. I think because of the people I worked with.

I'm a Junior Help Desk Analyst. I work at a University full time on a one year contract (started September 2012) and I hope to keep working here for a while yet, maybe have the opportunity to take a permanent position here.

Basically I take phone calls from a normal phone and there is also an emergency phone for Profs in classrooms. We're in the library on the main floor so there is a lot of foot traffic here and we get a lot of walk-ups. We also have a ticketing system so we get a number of questions and problems through there.

There are a number of issues I can usually help with:
- printer issues
- computer login issues (student and staff)
- connectivity issues (staff and student)
- account creation requests (new staff or students needs staff accounts)
- portal login issues (usually just students)
- issues with the learning system (I can help a little bit but we have another group that specializes in these issues)
- mobile device email setup
- questions about Office software (very very general)
- document recovery (happens when students download from email, work on it and just hit save as opposed to SAVE AS, then there file is usually lost in the depths of the computer)
- password recovery for a variety of systems
- disk space issues (they're always asking for more)
- shared folder access
- shared folder creation
- distribution list creation and modification
- projector display issues
- issues with smartboards
- doc cam issues
- using laptops at lecterns
- media equipment rentals
- alumni accounts (that needs to stop changing!)

List can go on and on sometimes. I've even helped with photocopying, paper jams, printer maintenance kit replacements... It's always something new.

Hey guys and girls.

Don't know if this has been asked yet as I don't really have time to go through all of the topics in this section.

So the questions are: What is your profession? How did you come about it? How long have you been in it?

So shoot away and lets see if there are any different or unusual professions on this forum.

PS if you are in school, why not tell us what subjects you do and what kind of profession you would like to go into one day?

Cheers Smile

Me, I'm a wireless network engineer working for a small company in Boulder Colorado. I am the Sr. Technical support Engineer and I get all the real problems to trouble shoot, plus I test new software, new hardware, and write manuals.

Testing the New Software and recording results is fun and I like doing that aspect of my job. I also love assembling new hardware and testing it as well, typically a challenge and requires using equipment in the test lab to diagnose paths on new boards, ground plane on the new boards as well as connecting things like GPS antennas to the board and getting them to transmit GPS corrections and time through the board to software applications. All of these things are challenging and at times difficult.

By far and away the most frustrating thing about my job is using MS Word to create manuals. Actually typing in content is no problem, it is formatting the document and adding in headers and footers that is just hair pulling frustration. AND don't even think about using acrobat to edit a document, as bad as Word is, it is so much easier to use than acrobat. Honestly my job would be so much easier if word were not such a pain in the butt!!!

I am a stay at home mother/housewife. I'm sure if you think about it you'll figure out how I became a mother. *wink* Razz I have been in this position for almost 6 years now. Before that I was a primary school teacher for 3 years. I became a teacher after changing my degree from a Bachelor of Science (Biology with a Physics minor). After many years of working towards my dream career in science, I realised that work prospects were slim and I'd probably end up in a job I did not enjoy, at the same time I visited an old school teacher and after being lumped with the task of helping her out in the classroom, realised I really enjoyed teaching children (despite not really liking them at that stage) so changed over my degree.

Currently in a job training program where I work with people 55 years of age and over.
It is a challenging. I help them get approved for the program and then upon approval I help them with their employment goal. There are many levels of skills each person has acquired. The skill many of these people lack are computer skills. As their assistant, I have been teaching them one-on-one the basic mouse skills and then we move on in small group setting from there.
