Who will be the Republican Presidential Candidate?

Who will be the Republican Presidential Candidate?

And more importantly: Who has the best chance to beat Barack Obama?

I honestly think the only one with any chance is Ron Paul, as he will motivate Republicans to the polling booth, attract hordes of non-voters and steal enough voters from Obama (ie people involved in Libertarian-Socialist and Anarchist politics, Zeitgeisters and other involved in the conspiracy culture, and left-wingers fed up with the massive debt).

Who do I think will win? A toss up between Romney, Palin and Ron Paul.

Mitt Romney has no charisma. He makes Bob Dole look exciting. Seriously, Republicans should not make that mistake again by having a candidate with no charisma.

Palin repels as many people as she attracts. There is no way she can win. She would be even a worse choice.

In any other election, I would say Herman Cain would be a great choice to help the Republican party attract non-white voters who generally would otherwise be repelled by the Republican Party and its policies. But Obama is popular and charismatic, and Herman Cain is not.

Go Ron Paul!

Confused Why must the hopes of (true) libertarians and anarchists rest on such an inadequate person?

Besides, the Republican party will never nominate anyone who actually gets serious about liberty issues when it conflicts with the party platform. Drugs, abortions, immigration... They won't stand for somebody who espouses (true) libertarian views on these topics.

Abandon the Republican party. The Libertarian party is the 3rd largest in the USA, let's make it the 2nd... or perhaps even the 1st.
(It has problems of its own, of course, but not as severe or as systematic as the others.)

I think I've just got depressed. I think when I read the title of the thread I was hoping that maybe there is something magical that I don't know about, as I really would have loved a good opposition for Obama, but Palin in the Presidential race?

I'd love to see Ron Paul as the nominee, but I'm not convinced he would even accept it. Regardless, it would be better for the country to have a president that embraces limited size and scope of government intrusion, fair taxes and the rule of law. Despite who resides in the White House, however, the change would need to cascade to the legislature to see real change since they control the purse strings.
