Of course there are a few questions, are we going to be spoon fed again with a possible claim that those fake videos where Osama appeared well and OK were made by "Al Qaeda". When it was clearly that Bin Laden was dead, it was the CIA and friends who delivered the videos to mainstream news all over the world, guess what - big surprise - it was all a lie!
I find this awfully convenient
Not for bin laden it isn't.
Let the conspiracy theories begin.
Where is Twitter link?
You don't need twitter now, google it,you will find countless news sites covering the story,or switch on a TV.
Not really implying a conspiracy, I just wonder when people will start actually hitting the "make or break" issues the US is facing. We spent weeks on stupid birth certificate nonsense, now the media will be flooded about bin Laden for the next week.
I don't mean convenient in the sense that this is some kind of staged event, but these things are convenient for Obama. The hugely important issues -- recent adventures into Libya and the like, unemployment, health care, general economy, etc. -- that will damage his perception are issues that have been largely swept aside for the past month or so. This will certainly improve his approval rating and it comes at a time where he really needs the support. I think that is convenient for him "/
I don't know how Obama is viewed domestically, but i think worldwide he is still very popular.
Even without Bin Laden though, the threat from Al Queada isn't going to go away,it wasn't a one man operation, yeah they got the cartoon bad guy,but the war in Afghanistan is still going to go on.
murdering a murderer does not a murderer minus.
I also agree with truespeed and deanhills on the same note.
If he is really dead, there is a possibility that there will be lot more tentacles rising up, especially to be the #1, i.e. to be his replacement, and each one will want to flex their muscles and give a show of performance, in any way possible.
This will be bad for innocent people everywhere, not just Pakistan, or Yemen or Afghanistan even, but the world all over.
I do hope that with his death, Al Qaeda will weaken and dissolve completely, but thats just wishful thinking.
Its only a good thing that he didn't die a martyr (i.e. die by foreign hands), but its a bad thing that he was never caught in the first place.
i know, americans and even the world is happy about this news but is he really dead? do they plan to show the photos of bin ladens dead body?
Now only I saw the news on TV.
People's enjoying for this news.
The body was conveniently thrown into the sea. And remember, if they said it on TV then this means Osama is done making headlines and phony videos as well, time for a new boogeyman.
This is all very weird...
There's something fishy about all this... I just can't figure out what...
To my knowledge, they offered the body to the Saudis and/or his family, but they wanted nothing to do with it. So they disposed of it in a way that the grave site would not become some "shrine" for his following.
Well said! Perfect timing! Trump that 'Donald'!
Now the US can stop putting 'aide' money into the Pakistan government's pockets!
Maybe this will boost his popularity within the US. He needs it.
It is comforting to know that Bin Laden is dead but the number 2 person from Al Quida is still at large. This event has definitely helped to heal some wounds but I still fear that terror attacks will not be stopped unless Al Quida is removed from its root.
I find it incredibly naive for people to celebrate to the extent they are doing, and blasting it all over the media. That has to be like waving a red flag to your proverbial bull.
True Bikerman. I misunderstood his death. I thought he died of natural causes. I just found out that he died by American hands, and to add injury to insult to Al Qaeda, they dumped his body in the sea.
At the moment, he is regarded a martyr, and the taleban have already vowed to bring on attacks in the US and other places that helped the Americans get to Osama.
In a way, I'm glad that Osama is dead.. and that too by American Navy SEALS.
It was retribution that was a long time coming.
In further details, I found that he was hidden in Pakistan, among top officials of the pakistan military, and I think one of his sons also died in the attack.
I also take it from the news, that a helicopter was brought down, among the heavy gun fire in the fight that ensued through the course of his extermination.
I've seen the news where people are rejoicing, and a lot of them finally have found peace.
People have to be aware, especially now, but at least they've wounded a major part of Al Qaeda (hopefully its head), and perhaps there might arise more than one, but fact is that people have been waiting for this a long time.
Very little surprise that future attacks will be in the name of Osama, and also that Pakistan officials might be involved in hiding him all this while.
But what I heard in the news was that it was according to Islam practices...was it?
Edit: I checked and it would seem that he was buried at sea after all. I can't understand, if next of kin could not identify his body, how on earth can they prove he is really Ossama Bin Laden? All the evidence for an independent verification has been destroyed? Bizarre!
Peace is great. Problem is, you can't love terrorists and insurgents into submission. They don't give a shit about our ways, values, and lives. No amount of love from our nation will change that. They want to obliterate our entire civilization, our hopes and dreams, our women, our children, our men, our homes, our buildings, our churches, and everything that has touched or come near the western civilization. Killing one of their leaders and taking their numbers down is the only real way to protect everything we are and know and hold as a country, as a people, and as one nation under God. Letting Osama go, or bringing him here alive, would only have brought unity, anger, and revenge from a handful of countries that already want to kill us. Killing him, turning him into a martyr, was truly the only way stop his tirade, and give further pain to those who want to destroy us.
That's aaaaall I gotta say about that.
If Obama has said he is dead, he is.
And yes, that comment was meant to be sarcastic.
Not that I'm brewing conspiracy theories saying he isn't dead, but as liljp617 said, I find all this awfully convenient.
EDIT: Has anyone watched the Fox news slip up - "President Obama is dead.."
Found another one:
There is no way we can get to the actually truth of what's going on until files in the government get released explaining the truth.
@saratdear. Thanks for the videos. Wow, the commentator really did an awful job in that second video. Interesting though to learn that this had happened a week ago. Guess Obama needed that time to make his presentation? Like he did with the oil spill in the Gulf and then again the delay with moving American citizens out of Libya while he was preparing his speech. Presentation is everything for Obama!
This argument about being 'convenient' simply doesn't work. Pick any point in time - his death would have been at least as convenient and often more so. If he had been killed before the health-care vote then that would have been 'convenient'. If he had been killed a year from now, that would have been 'convenient'. If he has been killed while Bush was in power then that would have been 'convenient'. There is no point in time at which his death would NOT have been 'convenient' and therefore the assertion carries no meaning.
I would like to continue emphasizing that I didn't mean convenient in any mysterious sense of the word. I simply meant it's a huge, emotionally-filled issue that will drown out discussions of other important matters...and frankly ones that are more important in my opinion. The less time the media focuses on the economy, health care, foreign affairs in Libya, etc., the better off Obama is in terms of approval.
I believe that if this was just a charade, as I think it is, then it means a change in gears towards even more sinister objectives, it could be that a new bogeyman is needed and it will be presented with a big incident, a terrible one.
It is convenient because 2012 elections are around the corner - and this is a good thing for Obama the WTF Nobel Peace Prize - and the USA is trying to wage a ground war/invasion in northern Africa while still having 2 other wars pending.
finaly he had it coming to him, Usa all thje way
Pakistans role in this whole affair is a bit suspect, obviously from a diplomatic point of view the USA can't come outright and say they must of known of his whereabouts.
At best you could accuse them of negligence at worst complicity.
First of all, I am not in the U.S, I don't vote, so I couldn't care whether Obama's popularity was waxing and waning.
Secondly, the word 'convenient' was not used to refer to the time of his death. I used it to refer to the way in which he was killed.
Do we know the exact time he was killed? No.
Do we have photographs that show his body? No.
Can we be absolutely sure it was Osama that was killed, and not a life size chimpanzee that the U.S brought in, beard and all, killed, and subsequently dumped in the sea? No.
Not that I seriously believe any of what I've asked, because I think the world would be better off with him dead.
Fair enough but I don't understand why any of those lacks are convenient and who they might be convenient to.
Why is the lack of photos convenient? If the government really planned this a while back as a scam then how difficult do you think it would be to properly fake some convincing photos?
Why is not knowing the time convenient and who to? They could just pluck a time out - how would you know?
It should be interesting to see what information they find on the hard drives.
It may lead them to other leading members of Al Queada, and or any Governments who may or may not have been assisting him over the years,or maybe its just loads of porn.
I myself don't know if it is convenient or not, but right now I do feel confused about the news.
I also found out from the news that they had clues about Osama's whereabouts from the inmates at Gitmo.
Also there is news about a Kuwaiti guy involved that led to Osama's hideout :-
Then there is the fact that they threw his body at sea, and then there's news that it was burried at sea.
I think no one knows the real news, except probably the SEALS and FBI or CIA for that matter, including Obama and his administration, I suppose.
This lack of all information does bring about lots of conspiring theories, and therefore deffers the subject from the current issues at hand. - I think that is what Bikerman and liljp617 might be pointing out.
I still can't believe that he stayed as long as he did in one place, that does not make sense to me at all, particularly for an apparently seasoned terrorist. Unless there had been a particular understanding with the Pakistan Army Base, but then I can't see how he would have trusted them. I would not trusted them for sure and I'm a million times more naive, I'm sure, than Bin Laden would have been who must have been watching his back around every corner. Nah .... this does not make sense to me.
Because they can't be sure the public would accept it. These are the times when even a genuine photo meets with the comments "PHOTOSHOPPED!!!".
And, if the photo they might release is going to be a genuine one, I fear it is going to have lots of repercussions.
We wouldn't know, of course, but proclaiming him dead now has its advantages. (I am not too sure about U.S politics, but after all those birth certificate controversy wouldn't something like this put his ratings up?)
Now the time is ripe - if Obama was going to say - "Hey everyone...osama is dead! I killed him!" after the elections, the best anyone would manage is - "Oh, he killed the bad guy, we should have voted for him."
And oh, Osama has been dead for years. His body was preserved in ice.
2012 year oncoming,There had been a lot of famous things happened.2012 looks like a bit awful, hehe.
This was quite a nice surprise for me. Guardian.co.uk actually has an Obituary for Ossama Bin Laden. I find it a bit crude for people to be celebrating his death. I can understand that people may feel happy, but to celebrate anyone's death, even Bin Laden's, sounds a bit macabre to me. It also has a special irony after the GITMO debates of 2008. Just imagine. In 2008 Obama's Presidential campaign included a campaign to free (the poorly treated) prisoners from GITMO with speedy trials, and now his Presidential Campaign during 2011 is using the "presumed" killing of Bin Laden as some kind of victory on his part. What a change! And irony of ironies the source of contacts that finally led to the alleged capture and killing of Bin Laden came from GITMO.
They have decided that they will not be releasing the photo of Bin Laden for those very reasons, obviously being shot in the head has left his head looking in a very bad way,of course this will give more ammunition to the conspiracy theorists, but even with a photo they would of questioned its authenticity or when it was taken.
Guys, this is what really happened: Osama is dead, but it wasn't present!Osama, it was his time clone that was flung backwards from the year 2020 after a nuclear holocaust and the Large Hadron Collider did weird things to the space/time continuum. He knew from his own past that he would die, but he had to be make the sacrifice so that his present incarnation could carry on his TRUE evil scheme of transporting the entire population of USA into caveman days where they can't become corrupted by technology and eventually redeem themselves.
I feel like I should actually be writing a serious criticism of popular culture for the hypocrisy and disgusting barbarism surrounding the death of 'the bad guy', but honestly I'm not fooling myself that anyone would care and it's easier to repeat jokes.
Isn't it amazing what America can do when the PSN is down?
You want to believe!
I agree with you on this! USA sure did waste alot of money they put into the Pakistan's governments pockets.
I don't want to, of course, but there is something about the mind that finds solace in conspiracy theories than a cut and dried story.
Joking, of course. He is dead, and that is all there is to it.
Little slow here, but I don't get these references to the PSN. Playstation Network? Is it some kind of an inside joke? Conspiracy!
In my mind the last convenient time for OBL to die would have been in the 80s before he was planning the world trade center attacks. He's been a threat almost my entire life, or has everyone already forgotten that he attacked the world trade center twice with the second time being quite a bit more tragic than the first. The first attack was a bomb in a van that exploded in the parking garage below tower one (I believe), but did not do anything more than a little structural damage (fact).
Someone said we don't have pictures of OBL dead, but we do -- they were not publicly released. It was unanimously agreed that it would be against our international treaties to reveal such photos, and we already played the "oops" card on releasing photos of Saddam's corpse. This is expressly forbidden in international treaties strictly to justify hearing the call to war that American's would demand if one of our own was paraded around like this in some other country. Americans do demand there be action taken, so we are attempting to avoid further angering OBL supporters by parading him around, but honestly I think we should parade his corpse around in order to anger them so much they make a mistake or act quickly without thinking it through. For me I think all is fair in terrorism... not war, cause war has rules of conduct especially in today's political environment where most counties hear about almost every conflict and are either opposed or in support regardless of their geographical location which used to exclude countries not near the action before communications went global.
This is beside the point that OBL didn't really look like himself once we got our hands on him. Word is that one bullet took out both his eyes, so a picture of any bloody mess with a turban on it would look authentic to the situation and would have sufficed. I also agree that some stupid person will always challenge it's authenticity but that's more a result of their stupidity then it is any factual evidence. We DNA tested his corpse, and took pictures of the entire event. If you want to see them then get some security clearance with the US government AND supply sufficient need to examine the photos and other evidence -- good luck.
Besides... us viewing the photos doesn't make him any more dead or any more alive. Honestly, I think it's a little more than morbid to even want to see the photos. Personally I'll take their word that he's dead, because it seems to me that him being alive would be more political help to their agendas then him being dead. They can't remove any more of our freedom because of him now that he's dead, and they definitely did remove some of our freedoms as a direct result of him being alive. They might have attempted to justify more laws if he was still alive, and I think those laws would only hurt our freedom just like the patriot act hurts us very badly.
Are you sure you don't want to see the photos just because of a morbid tendency in yourself? I wanted him dead 30 years ago, but I'm still perfectly ok with not seeing yet more photos of dead bodies. It's garbage and useless to actually look at that photo!
What does it prove? Who else out there is screaming if you don't see the photos they won't believe? What group of people do you lead? Just like showing IceCreamTruck that worthless photo would have absolutely no merit or worth I believe that it would also be just as worthless to show it to any of you. The only thing potentially satisfied is your morbid curiosity.
I wish we could see the photo just to prove my point that it's probably like looking at a slaughtered cow with a turban on it. No amount of detail is going to prove that is Osama to you, namely, because you have no proof of who Osama even was. All of your evidence is held by others -- you wouldn't even know who he was, just like me, if you had not been told to hate him. Anything you think you know about him, including his appearance, can be faked. You could run your local convenience store every day for a year and you'd never know it. My second guess as to his location was actually going to be in the US or Canada if not Pakistan because no one would recognize him here without his turban on and him being surrounded by 20 screaming terrorists with AKs and I thought he may try to use that to his advantage because we weren't looking for him here. I've been under the understanding that he was in Pakistan for about 6 years even if this isn't accurate it's where I thought he was, and maybe I should have shared that information with the US government because it seemed obvious to me, and they apparently needed a little intelligence.
BHO undoubtedly made the call to go get him once the intelligence was in. Military action without congress falls on BHO, and he's always got that 60 day window to act quickly for the American people, and I'm personally glad we did not warn Pakistan. I think they are guilty of complicity in his absence for so long. What happened to declaring war on any nation that harbored terrorists? I think Pakistan earned their war with us which not all of our current conflicts are so justified. I'm a fan of displacing their government just like Iraq just to make sure that they aren't on El Qaeda's payroll.
Please answer my questions:
What does looking at that morbid picture prove?
What evidence do you hold that requires seeing those photos?
What group of people or country do you lead that is demanding you give your word the pictures are real? If you do lead a country then may I suggest you ask for more confirmation than just a photo, as we have much more evidence then that.
You think they'd drop his body off in the ocean before all the evidence was collected?
Who stands to gain from his death except for a slightly higher favor from the idiots who actually forget that OBL being alive was our mistake, not his choice? Obama is just cleaning up after Georgie Weorgie, and I think he deserves credit as being the man in office when OBL was killed, but ZERO credit for capturing him when the American people demanded justice. We're a good 6 years out on a quick response there, and that's just something else that George "Dubyah" Bush royally messed up. Who stands to gain from inaccurately reporting he is dead besides Obama now having earned his "dead terrorist leader" scout badge? Any one of us could have said "Go get him, boys!" to our troops once we knew exactly where he was, now Obama firing the kill shot that would have been impressive and noteworthy as something no American president has done before or will likely ever do again.
I still have unanswered questions though. If Bin Laden had been hiding out for six years in Pakistan, why did it take so long for the US to catch on he was there? Could it be that Bin Laden's star had been dimming for a while, and that he had been in semi-retirement kind'a after Sept11? All of the press reports that had been made from 2001 up to the point when he had been killed, had given him much more power than he actually had? There are still many questions that have not been answered for me along the lines of saying Bin Laden was singly responsible for the attacks in 2001. I'd need some information from a non-Government source to authenticate all the information that we have been fed over all of the years. I'm sure there must be some truth in what has been said, but I don't think we have been provided with all of the facts. If one withholds the truth, then of course that is a lie and I think people have been dished up plenty of lies.
I saw on the news the other day new footage of Bin Laden sat at home watching TV,and rehearsing messages for the western media, also his beard had been dyed black,i wasn't paying too much attention to it but i assume these video images came from the compound.
It will take the Americans a while to go through all the hard drives to find out whats on there, obviously everything won't be released as everything isn't for public consumption, but just because they don't release all details to the public doesn't mean they are hiding anything, just that certain information that is classified is classified for a reason.
Well, first of all, it's the message it sends: "No, you can't get away with doing such things..." along with other messages like "Oh, looks like we're competent after all" and "It's okay citizens, look, we're working hard to protect you"... It may not have tactically weakened their terrorist network much, but strategically, it is important.
In addition to that, you've got the intelligence seized... which if reports are to be believed, might just be extremely valuable; if there ever was records kept of the entire organization, all the way up to the highest levels, Osama would have them... which means that maybe now the USA also has them. That intelligence might be used to track down other high-ranking members, stop plots that are being currently planned, and/or find and shut down sources of their funding.
The video being discussed on BBC news.
Just so we're clear:
Dean, you are not the stupid guy who doesn't believe that I was talking about. The stupid ones are like the ones that believe Elvis, the king, is still alive. Some stupid person will always think OBL is alive, but it's too soon to know who these people are. You are still asking questions at the time of his death, so that isn't a bad thing at all. All intelligent human beings have questions about this event in my opinion.
* edit * some people will always deny any evidence presented.
