internal hard disk to esata

rjraaz
is any body know the design or concept to design a connector that connects a internal SATA drive to eSATA port.

Please dont suggest readymade solutions.

I'm not familiar with SATA to eSATA (I've never had any need to look for something like that), although I know that there are PCI to eSATA cards that you can buy for fairly cheap.

i have e-sata port on my pc. i bought an e-sata to sata cable and, directly connect my "naked" hd to my e-sata port using that cable.

is that what you are asking?

you want me to upload picture of the cable?

connect the left connector to hd, the right connector to e-sata port on your pc

you also need power supply for your hd

use this software to "safely eject" your sata hd

in action. the hd can be read by computer right now.

rjraaz
thanks for your reply

you have solved half of my problem,

now i need to build power supply.

and i have one more query for you is the software you mentioned is really needed

and can you give me the supply configuration or manufacturer you used

i dunno if the software is really needed. you know, once i watched NCIS and mark harmon got scolded because he didn't properly use "safely remove" before taking a usb drive. so, since i don't know if my data will get corrupted, it's no harm to use it. just 2 clicks, maybe less than a second to eject before powering down my hd.

of course, once in a while, it will say cannot eject because the system still using it, but like usb drive, i just power it off, and so far there is no problem with my data. then again, all my hd is big with thousands of files. there is no way i can be sure there is no data corruption.

the software is free, and the size is very small. you don't have to run it all the time, just run to eject, then exit the software. i don't see any real problem with the software really.

about the cable, you can just buy it from your local computer store. or try ebay. i'm sure they sell everything in ebay.

one of my favorite online store is http://www.chinabuye.com. but, i'm not affiliated in any way with them, and i'm not responsible if you didn't receive your item from them. so far i have no problem with them, bought few items already. but my friends do have some items undelivered. you can opt for delivery with proper tracking, but it will be much higher than the cable's price itself. with proper tracking, they will even resend the item when it got stuck before arriving in your country. but once it arrived and got stuck with custom, then you have to solve it on your own. at least you know where your item is, so it's not really their fault.

so your best option is still your friendly neighborhood computer store. ebay is not bad either.

some items from ebay. pay attention to the length of tha cable. don't buy too short or too long.

these are power adapters. you got to buy it with usb adapter, i haven't see any "stand alone" power adapter yet. you can use the usb adapter with old ide or when you run out of e-sata port, so no harm buying it.

and don't forget to protect your hd with these silicon case. pay attention to your hd size, 2.5" or 3.5"

http://cgi.ebay.com/Silicon-Case-3-5-HDD-SATA-Skin-Black-Rubber-Sleeve-/160517540094?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_15&hash=item255f9748fe

now all your problems are solved. external hd with 3.0 Gbit/s transfer.
rjraaz
Thank you very very much you resolved all my problem.

when i have tried your site i am not authorized to it. why?
badai
what site?
rjraaz
http://badai.frih.net/
badai
i used my own domain here.

it just a dummy page because i don't user badai.frih.net for anything. is nothing there. just a personal website for friends and family to keep in touch.

i think it's worth digging up this old topic since i'm using new "solution" for naked esata hd now.

it's much easier now without need for extra power cable/source, plus it add 1 more usb2 port

using this card:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/1-port-Power-Over-eSATA-USB-eSATAp-PCI-e-Card-ExpressCard-supports-5V-12V-Power-/160704791531?pt=UK_Computing_ComputerComponents_InterfaceCards&hash=item256ac083eb

and this cable:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/0-5M-Dual-Power-eSATA-SATA-22pin-eSATAp-SATA-22-High-quality-/320786837182?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4ab062aebe

support both 2.5" and 3.5" hd.
