Why so urgent?

You need to rephrase the question better... I've got no idea what you're asking. Are you perhaps looking for the folder containing desktop shortcuts? That's the Desktop folder in your user folder (varies between OS versions). But what does that have to do with programming? This is the "Programming - Other languages" forum. Maybe you're looking to automate something, checking what's visible on the screen. But if so, what language are you using?

Yeah, it's really hard to give help based on vague information, try and be more specific in questions, especially if they're "urgent".

in all respect, my advise to you is: learn to program in any kind of programming language.
one that knows a little programming wouldn't ask such a question to begin with.

the general approach would be:

* Think about what you want to accomplish.
* Write the program out in pseudo code or some kind of diagram eg: NSD
* Choose your programming language
* write out your code.
* test

I'm sure most people will agree when I say I think you are not in the right place if you are looking for handouts.

I'm developing a Desktop interaction system by voice commands in java for windows.

So, i need the names of the objects that are visible on the user's desktop.
In linux , the objects can be accessed by the use of AT-SPI tree, but i dont know from where i can get this in windows.

It's urgent because, this is my final year project and i'm running out of time. please help.

Do you know whether any files like explorer.exe or shel32.dll contains the data about the objects that are currently displayed on screen?

maybe tasklist.exe can help you."tasklist.exe" (e.g., just enter this term in the win command line (cmd)) shows all programs which a currently running.

So for example you can call this command within a java program,
for example like:

Code:

  public static List<String> listRunningProcesses() {
    List<String> processes = new ArrayList<String>();
    try {
      String line;
      Process p = Runtime.getRuntime().exec("tasklist.exe /fo csv /nh");
      BufferedReader input = new BufferedReader
          (new InputStreamReader(p.getInputStream()));
      while ((line = input.readLine()) != null) {
          if (!line.trim().equals("")) {
              // keep only the process name
              line = line.substring(1);
              processes.add(line.substring(0, line.indexOf(""")));
          }

      }
      input.close();
    }
    catch (Exception err) {
      err.printStackTrace();
    }
    return processes;
  }

tasklist.exe is not the one to find objects, it only provides the processes that are running on the system.
I want to get the object id,class name and value of the GUI element that is being displayed on the focussed window.

please see this link to know what exactly it does http://www.ranorex.com/gui-testing-guide/spy.html .

Isn't that in the api?
I'm not sure what, but I'm pretty sure I've used it before.
