Agreed. Some nice colours would be great. I love blue, and if blue is a signatory colour, maybe different colours of blue. But yes, colour usually brightens and livens things up.

Yes, it would be nice but don't forget that it takes a lot of time to make a new Skin/website lay-out. I think it would be better to make a real good Frihost homepage/website without looking at the forum (starting a design from scratch) and then after the website is finished, implenting that design into the forums... You would of course have a period with a good looking website and this forum skin but I think that's the only way to get a nice website with a matching forumskin.

I'm sure that there are Frihost members who are willing to help Frihost to get a good website + matching skin.

If I were Bondings, which I'm not I know, I would start a topic asking for interested people who would like to join a workgroup and asking for some kind of portfolio... Selected members could maybe join a group (in the sense of a phpbb2 group) which has access to a private forum where everything is discussed (would also be good for Frihost activity, although normal members who not see that forum ofc.).

The entire website feels 1995 and stale. I would like it to resemble other modern boards. Take mine for example:

http://z15.invisionfree.com/Exterminated/

Or this one, a board belonging to a friend of mine:

http://z7.invisionfree.com/Darbyville_Academy

Or, my Fish Forum:

http://www.tropicalfishkeeping.com/

Compared to those ones, this board is dull.

That is very dark! I prefer light and bright.

This is black and white, no colour at all ..... Smile

The colours in this example are basically the same as Frihost's current colour scheme, maybe a little brighter and I do agree with brighter blues.

Black + flashy green is also very nineties... Just google (pcitures) hacker style and you'll find enough images with the same colors.

I also dislike very dark websites but that's personal flavor... Confused

The design isn't really made for the bulletin boards subject, I thought it was a forum about chess before I started reading, which makes this design not really good if the board is about something else.

The explanation on top of the forums 'The Tropical Fish Aquarium Forum, dedicated to discussion...' isn't really professional looking, the font(-size) isn't matching the font of the forum itself and the adverts aren't really helping in making it a good lay-out. The colors however are well chosen on this board.

QFT

on a side note, OP has been here what, 2 days? also wtf is up with all the smilies and "life" crap.

i personally find the colours to be dull and boring, but thats how i like it, i dont want colours thrown at my face, or frihost to try and be trendy. this is a forum where you can have sensible discussions, not be blinded by colours/strain to read.

Bring back the April Fool's rainboxing!
That should be colorful enough.

Good point. Maybe some subtle modification of the blues with an elegant and sophisticated logo would work well then. Going to green for example would be wrong as it is too much of a departure. Blue is the best colour anyway for Websites. Rather work with what is there, and just make it a richer tone of blues to enhance what is already there.

Maybe we can have a competition for it?

Here is an example of a selection of different shades of blue that could blend right in as accent colours, and can be contrasted with white and light grey:

Here is a good example of an understated application of a combination of blues, grey and white:

Uh, perhaps it escaped your attention... but isn't that basically the color scheme that Frihost already uses?
Besides grey, the dominant color here already is blue.
Perhaps there's a bit much grey and white, but that's all the fault I could find with the current colors.

Frihost's color's (excluding white):

The theme is blue, but it's a bit more dull, and yes, there is too much use of white/gray.

Right deliberately so. The idea is to brighten things up a little, not to change the colours. If you have a closer look the blues in the palettes are a bit brighter.

Yea, it would be much nicer with a appealing theme.
