The easiest way is to install it on your own machine and play around with it. The official guide is probably the best starting point:

as suggested above, download the entire package, install it in ur localhost and play around with it. there are thousands of extensions too which you can go through.

Usually Joomla has its own preliminary sample data that gets installed (as an option), when you initially install it.
THis is the best way to to go.
Use the existing information there, and work to modify it to your likings, and that will get you used to the wheels of the joomla CMS engine.
There are plenty of sites that have Joomla tutorials, and you'll have to search them to see which one suits your knowledge pick up skills.
