Netflix vs. Blockbuster

Tony The Tiger
I am switching over from Blockbuster to Netflix. About half of the movies in my Blockbuster queue seem to be available for online instant viewing on Netflix. I am noticing that there are two major differences when viewing these online offerings. First, netflix does not require you to see previews or commercials prior to viewing the main attraction. This saves about 10 minutes per selection when viewed online on Netflix. However, with HP quickplay, I can play DVDs at 1.2 times speed which makes every hour of movie time 50 minutes of viewing time. I can also put view the credits at 16 ore 32 times speed to get through them. Thus I am losing about 20 minutes of time viewing on Netflix. The net time viewing overall is about 10 minutes longer per selection. However, I don't ever have to worry about bad disks and or getting the disks into a mailbox. Furthermore, there is no two day turnaround minimum (one day for sending and one for receiving the DVD in the mail). Overall, I think the edge goes to Netflix and netflix is cheaper.

Either I don't get your point or you are not getting mine.

I haven't checked in ages but does blockbuster have a porn section yet? I'd have to think it's a good move if they did, otherwise, I don't know how they're going to compete against Netflix in a few years... switching to what Netflix does would cost them too much to even consider it

I will prefer netflix as the winner because it is cheaper, reliable and offers more options to look for.

The blockbuster near my house is going out of business thanks to Netflix and Redbox (1 dollar a night movie rentals). I haven't been to blockbuster in years thanks to Netflix's selection.

I had put my Blockbuster account on hold while I tried out Netflix. I have found that Netflix is more prompt with their deliveries, especially since their warehouses are open on Saturdays and receive and send DVDs on the weekend. I called Blockbuster last week to close out my account and they gave me four free months of service in order to give them a second chance. In the mean time, I am reducing my Netflix account from 3 to 1 DVD at a time, which should save me a little of money for the next few months. I am pretty sure I will still end up cancelling my Blockbuster account this summer when my free delivery period ends.
