Benchmarks -- How fast is your Computer?

I thought it would be interesting to see how our computers compare on a standard performance test. The Hardinfo program has several compute-intensive benchmarks available for Linux and Windows (probably for Mac too). I couldn't find a site where Hardinfo comparisons between computers are posted, so I thought I would post my results here and see if others are interested.

If anyone knows a site having comparisons, or can recommend a different benchmark, I'm all ears. I want to make sure it's easy for all of us to install and run so anyone interested can participate, and I like having multiple tests with differing computational requirements.

I was expecting that my laptop scored better than my desktop computer because it's newer and the feeling is that it is faster but it was only better in two of the tests. I guess 64 vs 32 bit and different manufacturers makes big difference on different kind of problems.

Now I need to get a better idea what the benchmarks measure if we are to find it useful. Less must mean better for at least three items (Blowfish, Fibonacci, and Raytracing), since I have lower numbers than the old reference machines. I assume they are seconds to complete.

I didn't find good descriptions of the algorithms and ratings. Lets compare the three machines we have so far. I want to get the units right if I can.

Those tabs seriously messed it up. The numbers are all there on one page, but I have to find a better way to get spreadsheet data to the forum.

*edited* to clean up the table a little and specify what the numbers mean. Not yet readable.

Oh, I assumed lower was better for all of them but that is not the case. If you use the GUI and select the different benchmarks you can see a description at the bottom.

So the battle between my computers ended in a draw 3-3.

Thanks, Peter, for looking that up. I just ran the whole set and looked at the report, and I couldn't find documentation on the Internet.

Hardinfo is readily available for all systems, so it seemed like the best one to use in order to encourage a lot of members to post their results. Hardinfo has apparently been around for quite a while, but it is not yet considered to be production quality, and the documentation is limited, although the individual tests are classic benchmarks.

It appears that cryptohash is the only one that reports iterations per second, all the rest report total seconds to complete the full test. I will go back and edit my summary a little, but if we are going to make a table of results for everyone we need a much better way to post it.

Everyone else is welcome to post their results. We may or may not eventually set up a nice table for comparison. Everywhere I've seen results posted, no one commented on the nature of the tests. I hope this thread will be the exception.
