Homeland Security downplays N.Y.C. threat

NEW YORK - Authorities stepped up security Thursday after receiving what city officials called a credible threat that the New York subway could be the target of a terrorist attack in coming days. But Homeland Security officials in Washington downplayed the threat, saying it was of “doubtful credibility.”

Despite the differing takes on the seriousness of the threat, New York officials mobilized police officers to begin looking through commuters’ bags, briefcases, baby strollers and luggage.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg called it the most specific terrorist threat officials had received to date. No one in New York had been arrested or detained, he said during a nationally televised news conference alongside Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly.


Seems that some never learn. I say Blow them up ask ?'s later. This BS about sending troops after troops overseas and yet they still let terrorist into our own country is just stupid. If they are scared of killing inocent peeps when they blow the H3ll outof a country to kill the bad people then they should think hey the people should kill them for us if they not want to be blown up. LOL all i got to say is better be glad I am not in control of our country. I am a shoot first ask the survivers if they are any the questions. If the US would learn to put fear into the eyes of these people and not help them rebuild once they blow the h3ll out of them they would learn to respect us as a country and leave us ALONE.

I was watching that on the news last nite. It's amazing the different ways CNN vs FOX report it. That's a topic for a different thread though. Wink

You say to blow them up and ask ?'s later. While I agree, I must ask; blow who up?

The terrorists (or freedom fighters if you're liberal), hide among women and children, making it hard to target them. A very cowardly but effective plan IMNSHO.

They did say it was the most specific threat to date, yet they did not step up the threat level. They only increased security, and many of the people commuting last nite were un-aware that there was even a threat.

Perhaps Homeland Security knows something we don't, (very likely they do), but why take chances?

They mentioned last nite on the radio that during WWII, a group of Nazis landed on the Florida Coast (a type of commando unit) and were caught almost immediately. They were delt with very effectivly; hanged by the neck until DEAD. No trial, no accusations, no nothing. They were killed and did not provide a threat afterwards because they were DEAD.

I wonder what happened? Why are Americans so ef'n soft when it comes to the rights of those that would have us DEAD? They capture terrorists and let them go. They capture terrorists and jail them for 3 years then let them go. Do they at least get deported? Not that it's hard to get into this country.

The United States is in a war right now. With an enemy that will not go away no matter what. The plan of islam (radical islam) is and always has been to take over the world and crush anyone that doesn't want to 'convert'. They've been trying to do this for centuries. Yes, for HUNDREDS OF YEARS, and the world KNOWS it, yet fails to accept it and unite against it.

So many countries being attacked by terrorists, yet they do little or nothing about it, and try to blame it on America.



Russia last year had a pretty big attack on them, so what do they do? They start making deals with Iran! (A very well know supporter of terrorists)

Quite a fickle when closing the borders is unacceptable to americans

When continual terror alerts get complained about when they do not come to fruition.

People never complain about tornado warning and then complain again when it turns out to have not been a significant threat.

Should we ban firedrills because there is no fire?

The nature of terrorism is very similar to the nature of covert operations.

If the secret is out the plans gets cancelled and nothing happens so a real threat is diffused by acknowledgement of said threat. So 90 percent of the threats are not false alarms but rather diffusion techniques.

Big Cities near borders are bad places to live in todays world.
