I was recently reading an article in the newspaper and I saw that it said that our troops are paying for their own body armor. This both shocks and frightens me that our government doesnt care enough about our soldiers to protect them.
While I do support the Troops, I do not support the reason for why they are over there. This just shows how much our government actually cares about its people. . .
I dont know which goverment your talking about as the British goverment had to do the same. The reason the brits had to get their troops to buy their own body armor is because they could for some unexplained reason get the desert camo armor needed. Yet they expected troops to buy their own from some unknown place. The brits have had to swap armor between the regiments that are out there and the ones comming home.
BTW, I was talking about the American Government.
I was just saying that if a country is going to send a soldier off to war, he should be given every and any protection availible to make sure he does not die.
I realize you read this in a 'newspaper', but please abide by the forum rules and post links. A quick google search will give you all you need.
This is a) old news and b) spun so as not to show the real truth behind the story. The basic problem is that new technology is coming into use much faster than the traditional military procurement system can deal with and soldiers want the latest and greatest.
What you fail to post is that they GET PAID BACK IF THEY DECIDE TO BUY THEIR OWN ARMOR!

There’s more useful, often life-saving, gear the troops can use for sale. And the troops don’t wait for the military to get around to stocking the new stuff, and they are not shy about telling each other, or the media, how great the unofficial gear is...
Several years ago, the army thought it had this under control with the “Rapid Fielding Initiative,” which gave combat units millions of dollars to spend as the commanders saw fit. But it was never fast enough. [Especially when its funding keeps getting pushed back into "supplemental budgets.] So the latest attempt to cope with this situation is the annual $1,100 reimbursement. |

HEHEHEHE!! Old news, is it? Check out this article that was released today by Reuters, hardly the liberal propaganda machine that AP is accused of being.
Don't tell me that the Pentagon is paying these people back. They aren't. They are too busy ordering hundred-dollar toilet seats and handing out no-bid contracts to Halliburton and other big business companies with high-level political ties.
Please. These guys have one goal. That is to get richer at the expense of everyone else. These guys are harming public safety and robbing you blind while appealing to your sense of patriotism.

You make it sound like they're never going to attempt to pay them back, yet the very headline says "52tease can't read", err, wait, it says..

| Pentagon late on reimbursing troops for Iraq gear |
Why do you insist on trying to make this into something it's not? I've been dealing with the government on many levels for many years and have yet to see them do something on time. What makes you think they're not going to pay it back?
I don't know if it's a lack of basic reading skills or just that you ignore facts completely and make shit up as you go along, but like S3nd K3ys pointed out, this IS old news, and it IS going to be paid back.
I cant post a link cause i read it in the "NEWSPAPER"
Anyway, the link aout the pentagon not finding a way to reimburse them is the one I was talking about.

I found several links in a couple of seconds. Perhaps Google isn't working in your neighborhood?
So now it's they 'can't find a way to pay them back' where before it was insinuated (several times) that they 'wont pay them back'???
Isn't that special.
52tease, Billy said it pretty good and I agree with him 100%. You two are trying to make a big issue out of this by trying to get people to think the government is planning on sticking it to those soldeirs and not pay them back.
This is exactally why so many people are so mad at lieberals: They can't seem to tell the truth unless it further's their adjenda.

Hey, I can see the truth. The Truth is that our president sent our troops into Iraq for the wrong reason. Iraq may have proved a problem in the future, but it was not at that time.
They should have focused on getting Osama, not Saddam.
The War in Iraq has cost our nation more than just money. It has cost the lives of our soldiers and the respect of other nations.
S3nd K3ys,
Maybe this is why people are so disgusted and upset with liberals. Not only do you persist in condescending to those who don't agree, you also can't figure out how to use a spell-checker as you do so.
It has been a pleasure to have an intelligent, moderated conversation in which people don't resort to personal attacks because they don't have a leg to stand on.
Remind me to visit this 'civil' thread more often.

So now that the truth has been pointed out, you have no comment on the subject as it really is?

52tease, would you mind to post your opinion on the topic if you are so well informed about the politics of this country?
I believe that if Bush really cared about the people that they sent over to Iraq, they would have had a better plan to quell the regimes and usurpers over there. Our country has turned into exactly what the forefathers wanted to protect us against; that is to say that our country now bullies other countries around like England did before the American Revolution.
A thousand apologies and a million I'm sorries (now I feel like exactly the type of person I was critical of in my last post). I can't quite figure out how to strikeout a word using BBcode and I can't turn on HTML. I meant to say that is the problem with 'neo-cons' NOT liberals.
Man am I red in the face...
Herbz3, I appreciate and completely agree with your stated opinions on the matter.

Thanks 52tease. If anyone else has any opinions on this topic please feel free to post.
I wonder, though. Isn't the bigger question really, why, in a time of war, do we not have a Pentagon competent enough to equip our troops with the best gear available?
Is it because guys like this are buying for Uncle Sam?
