Due to my bad experiences of using The GIMP on Linux, I have to say that I find Paint.NET so useful when working on Windows PCs. The GIMP is for me a terrible program. Messy interface - no application background, different windows for each toolbox. Just messy messy messy!!! Also, some tools like the rectangle select tools just doesn't work like they do in other traditional programs such as photoshop, and to a large extent, Paint.NET. Paint-Mono just won't work on my version of Ubuntu, so I plan to upgrade to version 10 of Ubuntu in the hope I can get paint-mono to work, although from what I can gather, a correct working version of this won't be available for some time yet.
