I've tried looking for an available download everywhere but either the links are all dead or they give you a torrent which doesn't work either.
Does anybody know where I can download the beta via http?

Yes, its easily available on the Web. You can get it from Microsoft itself. Go to http://msdn.microsoft.com and there u will be able to find a download link.
Sign in to the msdn account and get yourself Microsoft Vista Beta1

Its that simple.
(Just to tell u this is the only LEGAL way of getting it & msdn subscription costs around $1000/year)

Try linux, it is just as good, if not better. Spend some time trying it, and you might like it.

The problem is if you are a keen gamer, you can play windows games after installing linux, partitioning the drive into two partitions is better.

Indeed, but i think vista won't be as revolutionair as microsoft says: a new and fresg interface --> I think apple already has that, and even better. Also, there are the 'rumors' about the need to have a 'vista ready' videocard: if this IS true, many peaple will stay with Xp or ( even better ) linux or mac, cause who buys a graphics card, just to run an OS. I thought an OS was made just to keep your PC running, and now it's evolving to a requerement disaster or something ( xcuse me for the english, i'm dutch )

vista is in beta...so wait untill it comes out of beta,well microsoft is sooner going to launch vista 2 ,and its more hefty hardware ie vista will work best with video card with more than 256mb of ram,and 2gb of ddr3 memory and sata2 hard drive..
As there is complete new driver model in vista called "The Longhorn Display Driver Model-LLDM"

Meanwhile Internal microsoft document claimed tht Vista Is going Release on December 7 ,2006.
