Recently two Japanese scientists got a picture of a giant squid in it's natural habitat. This was the first picture ever taken of a living giant squid in it's habitat. Also, the squid got stuck to the bait and ripped off a tentical to free itself. The squid was said to be 26 feet long and it's tentacle was 18 feet long.
I think that this will really help scientists learn more about giant squids, since this is the first living giant squid caught on film.

Got links?
I heard someone talking about this but haven't seen any articles yet.
Yeah... Click here
Also, are you sure that it was found in October? Nytimes just posted about it today.

Damn. They ripped it's arm off!
I've often wondered why it was never photo'd. We've had the ability to go deep enough to supposedly find them for a while, but until now, no pictures. This will no doubt fuel the fire for more folks to go find them.
They didn't rip its tentacle off, the Squid did when it tryed to escape.

Escape from what? The people that snared it? That = they ripped it's arm off!
They didn't capture it, it got stuck to the bait and tore off it's tentacle trying to escape.

During the attack, the squid wrapped its two long tentacles like a ball around the bait, the researchers report.
One tentacle was caught, and the creature moved violently for four hours to break free. After 4 hours and 13 minutes of struggle, the animal tore away, leaving the tentacle behind. |

"bait" being the key word here. These people set a trap for the squid. The squid took the 'bait'. The squid lost an arm.
Would the squid's arm have been ripped off had it NOT gone after any 'bait' ??
Sorry, just messing with you. I know the squid didn't really have it's arm ripped off. (Even though it was)
What? You just lost me...

Sure you are... I finally recovered.
Sweet Moses that thing is big. o_o
Then of course, if it wasn't it wouldn't be called "giant".

Ok, thanks I completely forgot.
Can you imagine being eaten by one of those things?? =)
Sorry, being daft. It is a truly impressive creature.
the giant squid sighting just goes to show that 'absence of evidence' isn't the same thing as evidence of absence. there are many things out there for which we have only circumstantial reports...
Wow, that squid is gigantic. It is about the size of a small boat.
Wow! What a misterious creature! Maybe it's a special species...?
Interesting find. And might explain many sea creature stories.
i heard that one of the tentacles were cut off when they where searchingthe octopus
26 feets equals to how many meters?
