WWW01 domains

How does a www01 domain differ from a www. domain? I even saw a www02 domain. Here's an example:
http://www01.quizyourfriends.com/
alex_cyber
that isnt domain that is a folder or a google tool

think it is a sub domain for quizyourfriends.com. But I am not sure can somebody know ?

I don't think it's a sub-domain. If it were, it would show up in the browser bar as http://www.www01.domain.com .

it just a subdomain, like jwellsy.frihost.com

you can use any subdomain you like when you have control on your domain and it's dns.

No, if you use .httpaccess file and block www. for your site. I am not sure how to do it, but when I was register host and domain, responsible man ask me do I like www or http without www, or I like open my site with both possibilities.

Some cases i can able to acess some sub domains with www. prefix. Think its due to some settings in DNS control panel. But Still i am not sure about that.
