Meit
To Lock a folder in windows XP without any software. Follow the steps Below.

1. Make a Folder in C drive rename it as "abc" without quotes.
2. Now open Command Prompt from Start Menu.
3. Type "attrib +s +h C:\abc" without quotes and press enter.
4. This command will Make your folder invisble and it can not be seen even in hidden files and folders
5. To make it visible again type "attrib -s -h C:\abc"
6. You can lock any other folder also by changing the location C:\abc to address of your folder.

That simply marks a folder as both "system" and "hidden". It doesn't lock anything. Besides, you can't do ANYTHING without any software: in this case you're using at least two pieces of software: "cmd", the command line, and "attrib", which runs within cmd. Being picky here, you're also using Windows XP, the Windows Explorer shell, etc.

this is just making the file into system mode. it doesn't lock the folder. anyone can open the folder by typing C:\abc

In all fairness, though, if someone doesn't know the folder exists, they won't find it. So, in a sense, it does what locking is needed for in some cases: to hide the contents of the folder.

in that case it is also not necessary to mark it system. You can just mark it hidden if you think that is providing the protection. Although personally, i feel that offers protection against only naivest of naive users.

the folder will show up if "Hide protected operating system files" is uncheked.
it all depends who you want to hide it from.

if NOT EXIST Private goto MDLOCKER
:CONFIRM
echo Are you sure you want to lock the folder(Y/N)
set/p "cho=>"
if %cho%==Y goto LOCK
if %cho%==y goto LOCK
if %cho%==n goto END
if %cho%==N goto END
echo Invalid choice.
goto CONFIRM
:LOCK

attrib +h +s "Control Panel.{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D}"
echo Folder locked
goto End
:UNLOCK
echo Enter password to unlock folder
set/p "pass=>"
if NOT %pass%== password here goto FAIL
attrib -h -s "Control Panel.{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D}"
ren "Control Panel.{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D}" Private
echo Folder Unlocked successfully
goto End
:FAIL
echo Invalid password
goto end
:MDLOCKER
md Private
echo Private created successfully
goto End
:End[/color]

3- After u copy the Commanding go to line 23 (or try using shortcut- CTRL+F and type password to locate the line) u will find this word : password here (Change it with any password u like.) is :
eg: if NOT %pass%== narnia1234 goto FAIL
//so ur password here becomes narnia1234 .//
4- After that go to save as & name this file as "locker.bat "
5- Now back to the folder & u will find a ( LOCKER ) commanding.
(locker.exe)
6- Double Click on it & u will find a new folder (Private )
7- Ok ,, now copy what u want in this "private Folder" & after that come out of the folder, and Double click on locker again. It will open and ask if you want to lock your folder? Y/N ?
8- Type Y. your private folder will disappear.
9- If you want to UNLOCK your folder, go to (locker) & type your pass and you will see your private folder.
it not only hides the folder, but incase, u unhide all files... and try opening it without entering password, it’ll take u to the control panel...
Also, if u want to store files on your Pen-Drive, u can use this script. No Software Required
Incase u delete your Locker file (just in case), then u can make a new one (but with the same password) and open it from that.
Alternatively, u can keep this locker file somewhere else, and when u want to open ur folder, only then bring it back to that place

lol it changes the folder into an alias to Control Panel... quite tricky but interesting!

EDIT: did a little searching, change into other special folder is possible too! just replace all the hexadecimal number inside { }

the best possible way to get away with this is by burning it to a disk and hide it in a box, pack it, dig a place for it in your backyard and hide it there.

its safe now Smile
