Which social networking website do you use?

speeDemon
Well, I guess these websites are out in large numbers, and we users have quite a variety of things to do...

Which one do you use, and why? I personally use orkut, and facebook. I also used hi5 a while ago.
And what about twitter?(i'm not quite sure what it is though!)

And there may be tons more... which one do you use?? or find the best..?
adri
I used to have netlog, but I found that one immature...
Now I'm a loyal FaceBookuser (not the kind who uses it everyday or plays games).

Twitter is more like a site where you post a status like 'At the dentist', 'doing my homework', 'Anyone wants to go to the cinema?',...

I don't really like social networking and don't really use any of them.

I thinking a have a profile on Linkedin, which is a professional networking site.
the-guide
I just use onlywire.com to post and share the link to 27 social networking sites at once. Wink

Me too. I prefer real life social networking where you get to be face to face or at least ear to ear with real live people in real time.

Me three.. all of these new sites seem to be ways to try and get more people using the internet.

I can't imagine that people are really interested in what I am doing.... so I don't think it is worth my time to tell them something they aren't interested in.

Which puts me in a quandry with frihost.... Smile I need to post to keep up my points ratio.... so I need to share thoughts on various topics.... it feels kind of odd... but a deal is a deal...

I generally don't like forums.... I'm old style and prefer to join mailing lists....

The only one I am signed up for is Facebook, however I rarely use it and never play any of the games (FarmVille, Mafia Wars, or other). I am not really into all those Online Networking sites. Smile

The only social network site I use is Facebook.
I used to say that the only reason I had an account on Facebook, was because it has birthday reminders for my friends, and that it can be a nice tool to keep in touch with the friends that you don't see regulare, for example if they live somewhere else than you.

Originally, I was even against having a Facebook account, but eventually I was persuaded by a friend.

None. Seriously, just go out and meet your friends in a pub or something. Go on a trip together, share a real and enjoyable experience, instead of sitting near a PC screen thinking you're communicating.
We have folks at work who are addicted to Facebook (mostly), and tend to work on their "wall", instead of doing any real work.

Hmm I think you have a wrong perception about Facebook. I don't use it to replace my real life, and I think that counts for most people. It's just damn handy to communicate with people. In your opinion people who use phones are asocial as well since they also can go out and talk in real life instead of over the phone. Another advantage is that when you meet new people you only need their name to stay in touch. Only thing that sometimes annoys me about Facebook is that some people tend to write bullshit on it.

Like others i used and fun with facebook, twitter etc. . this is one way for one person to meet up with other people on the Net. That's not all though. Some people use social networking sites for meeting new friends on the Net. Other's use it to find old friends. Then there are those who use it to find people who have the same problems or interests they have, this is called thats why we called it networking.much better if you see and chat each other in person i think.
crimson_aria
the only social network I have is LiveJournal. I'm not much into social networks. my friends are all addicted to Facebook and they keep on telling me to sign up too, but I don't want to. It's not that I think bad of social networks, it's just that I feel like they'd get too much of my time online when my time for forums and searching is already taking a lot. I don't have enough time to spare. that's why I try not to get addicted to them.

I have just joined twitter, its great,Demi Moore is in the middle of naming a rabbit, and Ashley Tisdale is just having some sushi while watching TV before heading off to bed.

Cellphones do cause people to be a bit more asocial, since the only way emotions can be passed is using the properties of the voice. What I'm trying to say is that the best utilization of the human communication system is by direct, face-to-face conversations. Cellphones are of course better than text-based methods like Facebook etc, but they are still worse than a good old face-to-face verbal chat.

You're not replacing your real life, you're encapsulating yourself in some kind of a virtual bubble, if you wish, by avoiding direct contact with others. That's the problem in my opinion.

Erm no, im certainly not avoiding contact with others, it just isnt always possible to communicate with people in a direct way, thats when other means of communication come in. Like when people organize something these days they make an "event" on facebook with all details in it, this is much easier than calling people around. Facebook is just an extra way of communicating with people when seeing them face to face isn't possible.

Umm is this thread repeated one?, i thought I have commented on a thread like this before also, anyways i like to use Orkut, really addicted to it, next comes our very own Frihost, yaah it gives hosting but at the same time it is a social paradize too with Bondings to our Rescue! Very Happy

Facebook is my #1 tool, keeps me in touch with clients and everyone else. I am not really a 'face to face' person as I tend to bore easily and it shows on my face Embarassed
Facebook is extra addictive for me cause I play some games, FarmTown, CafeWorld, Yoville, Mindjolt games Embarassed Embarassed
dalton
I use twitter some,

and log onto facebook maybe once or twice a week Arrow
hamza1122
i use facebook often coz its more social and interactive unlike twitter. twitter is pretty boring.
jmlworld
I don't think Twitter is social networking. It's more microblogging platform which enables people to exchange ideas or share interesting stuff.

Back to the topic, I use Facebook. Facebook is the best social networking in my view, less ads, nice design and lightning speed.

I also use Twitter.
Raidation
I use facebook.

Twitter was a bit of a failure, and MySpace just died...
chatrack
I use orkut, becouse most of my friends i met in orkut. Here we have large popularity for orkut and facebook. twitter is getting popularity through the newspaper ad.media now a days.
Crazy_Canuck
Love facebook, spent more time on Farm Town that I care to admit
Parkour_Jarrod
Yeah definatly Facebook, i used to use myspace but its too clogged with javascript and advertisments, never liked twitter and BEBO is just for little wannabe teenyboppers
Insanity
I use Facebook, but I remember back when MySpace was all the rage, and Facebook was just starting out. When Facebook first started, there was none of those apps and stuff, but it was really simple, which is what I liked when I compared it to the crazy Myspace layouts that have bogged down the community. But now it's starting to become more like MySpace with their manyboxes of random crap filling the window. Hopefuly it doesn't fully evolve (devolve?) into MySpace in the future.
mattyj
i think they are all a stupid waste of time to be honest

Ive used facebook a real little bit to catch up with some old high school friends but thats it

I keep getting emails about joining mafia wars and all this crap... stupid
lethaltriad
I'm on most of them, started off with hi5 got bored, went to myspace and then that got too bulky with glitter comments and i'm mostly on facebook, joined twitter also to just network but dont see all the hype since its just status updates.
Utopia GFR
I'm definitely using the Facebook social network for private and professional purposes.

I really enjoy that tool as a cool and powerful media for wide spreading all the information I need to convey (especially useful for my radio and literature groups).

I'm quite impressed with Facebook and how much it affected my immediate surroundings.

Furthermore, I don't feel the need to check out other networks because that would result in recreating a virtual/social ring in which I'm already involved for more than 2 years Smile
Devilizer
I use facebook a lot, Facebook games are a good time to waste time.
I use myspace to post songs, and get feedback on my work, but thats basically it.
I sorta use twitter, i use aim, and it plugs into mysapce, and myspace plugs into twitter, so its a pretty easy chain...
Thats about it!!
Greatking
Facebook. i think its about the safest social webnetwork.
joostvane
I used to have Netlog, but when I got older everyone started to switch to facebook. Its just better, has more features. Netlog is so 'limited' and simple. Facebook looks and is chiller to me Very Happy
Dean_The_Great
I love the facebook. It's awesome. Great way to connect with friends, you always know if they check it on a regular basis, it doesn't really change like email addresses and you can share photos and such! The only thing I don't like are the constant requests for Applications.
Auctus
I dodge social networking as much as I can, partially because I'm an introvert and partially because I've concocted the notion that social networking was for the longest time simply a way for people too dumb to make an actual webpage to have a webpage. My wife and her whole family use facebook though.

Facebook has yet to turn a profit. I find that interesting. They have 200 million users and can't monetize them.
