Bye bye .... Yahoo ....!

deanhills
I finally let go of Yahoo. It used to be my "Home" page in Internet Explorer, but gradually over the last few months I got even more irritated than before. Irritations with the latest changes were the Address Line. Previously I could just click in the "address line" box and type in a new address, but now I find I have to delete the whole of the address line in Yahoo first before I can type a new address. Then with the search box, Yahoo has introduced "intuitive" search options, problem is that possibly they do not have enough sources to speed things up. So it is slowing down my searches, as well as I have to click really hard in the search box before I can enter my search words. For some reason the cursor does not automatically stay in the search box. The latter two "features" made me change to Google. Google is much faster, I also think it is coming up with better searches. I do still like the Yahoo news page though, so now and then will go back to Yahoo. But it is no longer my home page.

I have done the same thing. I find the new Yahoo home page is trying to direct me to do things I don't care for or have time for. If I wanted to personalize my page I would click on that link. If I wanted to invite more friends or add contacts I would do that on my own. The thing at the top and the thing that shows up when I hover or try to click on sports is nothing more than a "pop-up". I don't what anything popping up. My home page is now Google and I find USA Today is an adequate substitution for the old Yahoo news page.

I used to use the myYahoo homepage or whatever it was called because my internet provider is AT&T Yahoo. They started changing it too much and I don't like it any more. I use Google as my homepage now also. It is far simpler and seems to give better search results.

LOL maybe this is the reason why Yahoo has started this aggressive ad campaign. They're all over the place now and they seem to be losing market share FAST. Too many people switching providers..

I never liked yahoo. All those ads popping up all over the place and looks very messy. Google and bing also displays ads in their mail service but they are not in your way. But in yahoo........

One thing I have noticed, (I did not have this with Yahoo before), is that now and then when I click on Explorer, Google does not respond, it comes up with it being unavailable. I'm temporarily back with Yahoo as a consequence and looking for a better alternative. But as irritated with Yahoo, even more so than before. The worst part is when I try and type something into the search box, and it freezes (as it is "thinking"). I like to move fast and it feels as though it has put hurdles all over the place and in my way.

after reading the thread post i visited yahoo (its my first visit after 5-6 months) with my browser Opera 9.26 (its not the latest version, but not ancient too. It was launched just 1 year back or so) but yahoo took me to http://m.www.yahoo.com/ and required me to download latest version of Opera or other browser. Are they too lazy to develop a cross browser site that supports atleast 3-4 previous versions or browser. What they are doing is not that market leaders do, this is why yahoo is loosing its share.

yes i agree, yahoo like most search providers these days are very irritating, google is the only one I use. I also hate how they all want to install their crappy toolbars also.

for a moment i thought you were talking about your ranking on yahoo.....anyway, i still think yahoo is good for searching website according to their "authority", not like google, all about "backlinks", in fact, even though it is at times irratating to do organic search on yahoo, i still love to search other things such as picture......using yahoo.

You're right, I also like searching for pictures on Yahoo. They are really good with that. I just wish they would clean up some of the dead links, as I don't know whether you have found the same, but I notice quite a number of these among the pictures. I also like Yahoo News and their Cartoons. Between pictures and News I think Yahoo has great value for me. Just wish it can get its technology improved so that it can move easier and faster. Google is ahead of Yahoo in this category.

You have to wonder what is going on that world of search engines. For myself, I prefer simplicity. The simpler the better without distraction, although adverts are a driving force when they forget the purpose they had in my mind, they are not accomplishing what they set out to do but rather tend to loose customers. People tend to turn off or look elsewhere when they are swamped by commercialism and overwhelmed with overworked pages. You think someone in charge would see this happening but I suppose not until the entire network dissipates. I am saying this though without knowing the actual numbers, perhaps the large masses are still buying it up?

Better say bye bye to Internet Explorer too.

Unfortunately, IE will probably still be around for some time.

Not too long ago I also changed my home page. I used to have it set to MSN, but every time I opened my web browser and started typing a link, it would automatically make me start typing in Bing's search bar. That really pissed me off. So I eventually changed it to Google.

But I have sense changed even more and now just use Google Chrome, so no home page is really needed anymore.

I had the Bing search bar happening to me too, and it was just as irritating. I'm back with Yahoo again, I just like the way they do the news. If I can find another search engine that can lay it out similarly, I'd definitely be interested.

What is it like using google Chrome in comparison with explorer? Would you recommend Chrome?

i personally think that chrome is probably loaded with tracking and so i would definetly not trust or use this software by the tracking giants at google but thats just the my opinion. if theres a another browser to have installed i would go with opera, its multi platform and its pretty fast... not to mention the fact that their logo looks like an O, now being a zero is cool Very Happy

i hate yahoo and there constant attempts to install their sh%$%y toolbars, whats with everyone and toolbars these days, they just clutter your computer and desktop ahnd some are a pain in the a$$ to remove. I fix computers and do tuneups and always advise people against any of these toolbars they just slow the computers down.
