Can you please tell me if i can backup a forum say on SMF and PHPBB to another webspace wthout loosing the posts.

Go to cpanel --> backups. There you can backup the database. (where the posts are located)
There should be a good manual about such things on the phpBB and smf website. It would be a good idea to use that.

Any time,if you want to bake up a forum with mysql,just bake up your mysql database.
