Armenia-Turkey sign peace deal, Obama admin negotiates it

The Obama admin has achieved more success than ever before in getting Turkey and Armenia to negotiate some settlement of their disputes, another sign of the White House's strong leadership in the area of international peace. Strange how this isn't being talked about much in the TV media.

Armenia-Turkey sign peace deal, pitfalls ahead

ZURICH (Reuters) - Turkey and Armenia signed a landmark peace accord on Saturday to restore ties and open their shared border after a century of hostility stemming from the World War One mass killing of Armenians by Ottoman forces.

But in an indication of the many pitfalls that lie ahead of its implementation, the ceremony was marred by a three-hour delay due to last-minute disagreements on statements, forcing U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to engage in intense discussions to salvage a deal.

Obama had better get back over there- it appears that the peace treaty is already in trouble:

Armenian Armed Forces breach ceasefire
The Azerbaijani Defense Ministry said Armenian soldiers fired at Azerbaijani troops from an area outside the Horadiz and Ashagi Abdurahmanli villages in the Fuzuli region at 18:50-19:15 and on Oct. 19, 00:05-00:20.

The Azerbaijani troops answered their fire. No causalities were reported.

Good that you added "admin" as Hillary Clinton (NOT Obama) was the one who had worked so hard at saving the deal. And it is not a sure bet either, as even at the time when they signed the undertaking, they were at dispute with one another. Hillary had to broker between the two of them in Zurich to get the agreement signed. The deal has now got to be ratified by their separate governments first and that is not a certainty either.

I did not find a shortage of links to the event, and probably the media is also cautious as it may take a further two months for the respective Governments to ratify the deal. It is far from a done deal yet.

Yes the Azerbaijani factor is a major complication to the strong peace efforts of the Obama admin in this case.
