hl2.exe does not work

I got a new laptop with vista (I can upgrade it for little to windows 7) but right now i want to play team forttres 2. But even before the game starts it says:
"hl2.exe has stopped working"
"A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."

Of course i never get a solution kinda pissing me off, does anyone know a way to solve it?

Please post the specs of your laptop, can it run Counter Strike: Source?

No idea, other than that the Source engine is broken. Then again, TF2 is based on a "upgraded" Source engine. Check around at steampowered.com and see if you can get an answer there.
