WOW! Now I realize: Frihost, better than paid hosting

ratanegra
I was looking at everything that frihost gives to me, and now I realize that it is better than a lot of paid webhosters, and for free, all you need to do is to post 1 message every 5 days for your domain to survive the point reset...

It has not Ads, 250MB

(I have to pay 11$ for 50MB on *host***.biz)(Forum rules don't allow to speak directly bout no other webhosting service, for obvious reasons)

I can put my own domain
Unlimited MySQL databases

OMG, it is so stupid to pay for a hosting service if you have this (unless you are going to use it to post porn or to support terrorism, paid assassins, or "childloving")...

I will buy another WebHosting Service but I will keep this FH one, for respect to them and for puttin some extra data.. xD

And you!
Why aren't you hosted with FriHost?

.
william
You are right. While some paid hosts offer more storage and bandwidth, they seem to lack features Frihost has. What's more, there seem to be some paid hosts that have less storage/bandwidth and fewer features. I often question how those hosts ever get any customers.

But overall, Frihost is simply outstanding.
Donutey
Except for storage space, FriHost is much better than entry level shared hosting (usually the $5-$15 monthly ones).

I have a site on DreamHost (so I have more space) and it absolutely crawls, you pretty much have to pay the few extra dollars a month for dedicated memory. It's had a bunch more downtime than anything I've experienced with FriHost.
spring567
Frihost's host is faster then others.
tchaunt
I agree; FriHost is FAR better than a lot of web hosts I've used. 3 cheers for Bondings!

Shocked Exclamation Shocked What a ripoff!
please tell me that's per year, not per month! (And if it's per year, they better be giving you a top-level domain name!)
I pay about that much per month and get unlimited space and bandwidth, plus two domain names.
... If you're willing to shop around for a paid host, you can get a LOT for your money.
ratanegra
Oh, I am sorry, it is 22$ per year, for the 50MB, no domain, no extra features, doesnt offer cpanel, databases, mysql or anything else, just the storage, 50MB/22$/year! and 250MB/44$/year... frihost offers me more than that, for free!!
paskifire
Thumbs up! Razz
Helios
There are cheaper hosting plans available (just don't post them here Razz ),
but I have never seen a hosting company with a great community Smile
FriHost is free, it's not a company, and we have a great forum.
ForceRun
It is a great way to play around with web developing, good community, and is free.
azoundria
Nowadays, you can't really judge a host by it's price. You have to look at reputation, and history, and the clients, and their stories.

There really is no best host for every single person, but there are a heck of a lot of absolutely awful hosting companies and tricks out there.
erlendhg
Yes, indeed, Frihost offers a hosting plan that is much, much better than very many other paid hostings.
...and then it is free. I always get impressed when I think about how much work must probably lie behind. Credits goes to Bondings, the administrators and of course also the moderators (and account creators).
Ghost900
I have a friend who uses a paid host and it provides a lot of space but unless you upload a lot then 250 MB is more than enough. Frihost offers many features that I like and the best part is a forum that others can help me with little issues as well as I can post to others and help them while getting points myself. Frihost is one of a kind. Very Happy

Right, I also like the people who post, I seem to be learning new stuff all the time. It is also never boring, some feel really passionate about their views resulting is some really heated debates. We get Frihosters from all over the globe, that is nice as well. There seems to be a nice blend of Europe, the Near, Middle and Far East, the UK and the States not to forget the Ozzies and Kiwis. Interesting combinations.
ProfessorY91
Frihost is great. In comparison to a particular webhosting service which my dad has been using to run his business for years, Frihost has better uptime and is completely free. Additionally, the allocated bandwith for each frihost account is more than outstanding - to exhaust that would indicate that you're wealthy already. Go Frihost!
biljap
I haven’t used any paid hosting yet; I’ve never had a need for it…
But I admit that finding Frihost was definitely one of the best things for me. Free and reliable. Allowing you to learn and test your code… Allowing you to create your website to look really professional, with no ad banners… Just the best. Thank you Frihost! Smile
goutha
I tried paid hosting and I also realized that frihost is the best one!

I know few persons that had the same experince! Good for us!
the-guide
Exactly!!! Most Frihosters really love Frihost. Though I use other paid service hosting but that just only for the need of some functions which disable here.

All in all, Frihost is one the great web hosting around the world even compare to other paid service hosting. This is not just only the word of praise. Smile
Vrythramax
If you are pleased with Frihost's services you can always thank Bondings for providing them and creating such a lively community here: http://www.frihost.com/forums/vt-25249.html

Also as Helios pointed out, please do not advertise another webhost...it would just be rude (and against the rules also).
jmlworld
I agree that Frihost is better than many paid hosts. There are a lot of hosts who claim providing quality hosting but still blocking some features (i.e. safe_mode, mail(), etc..) demanding more money in order to enable this features.

Many paid hosts don't provide extra parked/add-on domains, unlimited MySQL databases, unlimited emails, etc... unless you buy a higher level plans which costs a lot of money.

Well ... I can't agree that frihost is better then paid hostings ...
It's the best free host - that's for sure ... but paid hosts (if You can choise right) are better ...
For example stability ... frihost have some downtimes (lot of them are short and even noone notice them). But for free ... uptime is still OK. About prices ... you get wat You paid for ... if You looking for host for few bucks and think that this be better than frihost - good luck Smile But hosting from a good company will be better option than frihost. I'm using few paid hosts ... like ~$50/y, ~$100/y and those are realy nice - good, fast support, good uptime.
I had to move my one site from frihost because 10GB/mo was to small package for site with ~1000unique visitors daily ... now I hold here only small, niche site Smile
If you have small site which isn't taking to much resources then You even don't notice if frihost is fast or not ...

Frihost is certainly my favourite free host, and I have gotten around too Razz I've been on freewebs, angelfire, tripod, and others - nothing compares. Thanks frihost team for a great free service!

250MB Storage, and 10GB/mo transfer Smile

I actually saw a host with the exact same limits as Frihost and was charging $15 a month, I was ready to email them and say "Why are you wasting your time..." Anyways, yeah Frihost has the biggest community (that I've seen) and best uptime EVER. Little bits of downtime here and there, but that's fine with me!

Most hosts come and go, within days and are usually run of resellers. Luckily Frihost has dedicated servers!

FRIhost is magnific !!
FRIhost is the best hosting I ever had! ( I had only 3 of them in my life, FRIhost is the third one ) but I don't want anything else!

I must agree that Frihost ROCKS! Frihost has given me better service than any other I have had (paid or otherwise).

lol took you a while to realise that buy hey Congrats! lol. yeh frihost is the best free webhost out there on the net and even better than most paid webhosting companies Very Happy

I love frihost! haha
Asap170
Well another thing why people want paid hosting is so you don't got like "frih.org" or "pcriot.com" For example; companies want paid hosting because it shows they aren't like cheap and use free hosting. and I've jsut realized that these hosters are making millions because if they have like 5 servers and a lot of people use them then say like 1Gb of space for like $10 and unlimited b/w each month... Then be making $120 from one person multiply that by let's say..... 400 it would come out to $48,000.00 a year.... but then you got to pay the bills (Electricity! Very Happy ). Free hosting is mostly for people like us and if people go visit your site and you can get Google Ad Sense and make bunch of money!
ocalhoun
Asap170 wrote:

You also have to pay for the internet connections of your servers... and since those connections must be very high-bandwidth, they're expensive. And you either have to be a very good server repairman, or employ one, because you'll be facing the wrath of your customers for every minute that a server is down.

Given the amount of competition in the field, I'll bet a lot of paid hosts are operating on very marginal profits, some are likely even loosing money (temporarily, especially if they just started and don't have many clients yet).
carlospro7
yup, couldn't be happier with my frihost service.
hofodomo01
I had a phase a few years back when I was really into webdesign and the like. Now, I'm not that excited anymore, but looking back Frihost has been pretty stable, effective, and useful all this time. A pretty good package, if you ask me.
qtwaiter
I think I can get the account from frihost! I like it because I find visiting frihost.com is very soon, I love it .

Why are you not excited anymore? Is it the fact that you don't like writing in different forums?

I haven't tried paid hosting - although having said that, I suppose I work for a company that hosts, so I should have some idea of what that is like Wink - but yes, the unlimited aspects of frihost are pretty appealing.

I came here when I became more interested in web development about a year or two ago, and was tired of my old geocities account - for obvious reasons. Tried a few other free hosts, to no avail. Others seem to have ads, or they go down, or lacking some crucial feature, etc.

This system I'm happy with. The coming on every once in a while to post is well worth it, and a relatively small price to pay.
mtorregiani
I've tried paid hosting a long time ago and I had bad experiences...

Frihsot is great, in fact, Frihost is the best hosting I've ever used. There is some downtime sometimes, but I don't care... It's just a little bit.
Raidation
I haven't found any free hosting better than Frihost. It's even better than some paid hosts. Who cares about the subdomain part? You can get a domain registered for just a couple cents...

Don't change Frihost to paid hosting. It's not worth it!
k_s_baskar
I am using frihost for the past 4 years (approx). I did't have probs here except few downtimes
( Even paid hosting will have some downtime).

Here my problems r solved easly within few hours by moderators and forum members. (It is superfast comparing to some paid hosting comapnies ticket system)

So finally my vote is for frihost for reliable and long standing hosting.

DOH! or gis it duh! Surprised

I have been so fortunate to be hosted by Sir Bondings and crew for a many years.
Insanity
I think the aspect of Frihost I am most impressed with is its relatively stability in the long term. I've been to many free web hosting places throughout my life and in my experience they don't have enough interest, people, or money to maintain their current business model. Generally they start off not having any ads, then they slowly start capping your bandwidth, lowering your disk space, and putting intrusive ads on your sites. Pretty soon they start to die out and you're left to fend for yourself. I'm genuinely surprised by how long Frihost has managed to stay alive for, and also thrive. It's gone beyond simply sustaining itself to prospering as a community and a company. Yes, it added the posting requirement, but that's about as far as it got before it becoming stable again. And yes, the features and amenities offered is great when compared to the simple task you have to contribute every so often.
lethaltriad
i've been with Frihost for over 2 years now and its been just great, never had any problems at all and its perfect for my website, I dont need a lot of storage and the bandwidth so far has been more than enough.

Love Frihost!!!
Stolich
The thing that sets Frihost apart for many other hosts is that its reliable, websites load pretty fast, you have everything you need. Especially the reliability pleases me cause they way that Frihost works (I believe they get enough funds through advertizing) makes that they wont go down suddenly.
Dean_The_Great
Frihost is awesome, and I doubt you'll find a single person on this forum who would disagree. Now, I find I bounce around in the negative points a lot, but that's mostly due to a little bit of laziness and general business. But a little time and effort for all you get for free? Brilliant!

You can buy a domain name (not very expensive) and link it to your frihost website if I remember right.
Fatality
I'm glad I found Frihost several years back. I haven't used anything else since. I have recently been considering going with a paid hosting option, but I think I may just get a domain name since I don't host that much anyway. I might start to dabble in trying to setup one of my computers as a web server at work. Should be a fun experience. Thank you Frihost.
Dark_merlin
I still think this site is great, and will certainly come in handy with its full PHP capabilities and a massive 10gb of data!? I dont think i'll pay for webhosting ever again ^^
Greatking
its great to post on frihost, u get to learn alot and discuss a lot of stuff on your mind and above all its free, awesom!
mk12327
Exactly! Frihost is incredible. I've been using it for some time and it hasn't been given me much problems. And the best part - it is FREE! Unfortunately, not all posts are great, though the forums here do often generate interesting topics and insightful replies. There are also several core frihost users that simply keep this forum going. Not to for

No kidding, I've had my account for well over a year and have only used a tiny fraction of my allotment of space for my site. Granted, I have my photos on Flickr, and I'm using a low-graphics Wordpress theme but still!

I'll get paid hosting in the unlikely event that my website somehow becomes outrageously popular and I actually need more bandwidth, but I don't really see that happening.
crossroads
Ive actually have had paid hosting that has been much worse than this free hosting from frihost. I had this one host that was like $4.99 per month which is cheap and all and I think it took them almost two weeks to set up my account and than once the account was finally set up the next week the servers went down for about four or five days till they fixed the which I know happens. After that I had an issue with my FTP uploading and I submitted a ticket about it. That was not answered until a month later after sending 2 emails to them and posting on the forums. After my 1 year service ran up lets just say I didnt renew it...
Ryox
Frihost lacks some features that Paid Web Hosting services provider like Storage and Bandwidth but hey, This is free! It's the BEST WEBHOSTING ever <3 If I ever upgrade, It's gonna be a domain name change xD;
PokerHeaven231
Yep, Plus its free which makes it even better. If they dont want the subdomain well, thats them, I have no problem with using a subdomain so it doesent faze me
guissmo
Yeah, this is the only host I've stuck to for at least five years? I can't view my stats here in the post page. Haha.

Anyway, it's good to know that this host offers a whole lot of things so I can experiment around and learn new tricks in web design for the future.

Thanks, Frihost!

PS: Support is also awesome!

This is the veery best site ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
