Psychology

I plan to keep this thread active for as long as possible.

I am reading up alot in the subject of psychology and emotions...

And the latest to spark some interest is colour evoking emotion.

Do you think this is true... Blue for formal, Green for wealth, Black for trust...

What are your thoughts? Twisted Evil
Indi
Rubbish.

What you're talking about is entirely culturally dependent - and even within a culture it could change from group to group or individual to individual. Take black for example: you say it means trust, so why do villains in most Western media wear black? And even within Western culture, for one group black symbolizes evil, and for other it symbolizes rebellion. And even within a specific sub-culture, its impact varies from situation to situation (you may find green meaning "nature" in one sense and "sickness" in another).

There is some very slight evidence that certain aspects of colour - like its tone, its brightness, etc. - may cause physiological effects (in a bright orange room you are more likely to have your fight-or-fight gland pumping than you would in a pastel blue room, for example), but as far as i know there is nothing approaching a systematic theory describing why this is so (it could be that we are evolutionarily inclined to be nervous around "hot"-seeming colours because that implies fire, which is dangerous). And these are just physiological responses, not psychological - you get agitated or calmed because of your blood chemistry, not because of anything you generated within your forebrain.

thanks for your input.

do you think that colours only evoke cultural meaning then?

I am more interested to know how you feel personally rather than what society says

I made a video demonstrating relaxing colours patterns music and suggestion... why not check it out

It is made from various medium found on the net and is supposed to relax calm and energise

it is a object oriented discussion
the same colour make evoke different emotions in different people
it is also situational

do you have a favourite colour?

Buds, what you saying IS true. certain colors do have impact on the way we see and observe things of different colors. this psychological perspective may not be accurate and applicable to all but then how our very deep emotions (in sub-consciousness) sway to what (color) fancies their mood. Impact of certain color on our psyche is true. Though I have yet to read and understand the exact phenomenon.

A lot of people use colours for that reason. Advertisers, artists, decorate..etc so there might be something to it. I colours don't actually effect or stimulate our senses some colours actually have been promoted. Red for example is hot as in fire. or dangerous if you are driving or looking in you account book and blue can be a social gauge as in uniforms, dress code. So some of how we percieve colours has been established in culture yes, some of which is universal, therefore we could interpet colours a certain way because of our associations with colours.

And it is definitely true, that some colors affect us.

Red, for instance is something to make us "alert", probably because we where evolutionally programmed to find fruits, which are mostly red, if they are ripe...

Green on the other hand is always "in the background" so to speak.

I am pretty sure you can make people feel differently about colors if you just trained them...

for example...classically condition: show them something red --> give them money (repeat many many times)...

I am pretty sure that person will LOVE the color red...

Pavlov Conditioning is a prime example of that - Sound to Salivate

Do you think it's possible to get someone to take a survey in the street, asking questions that would influence the person to make them feel certain ways to certain colours. Then later down that street, show them that colour and make them feel overwhelmed by a certain emotion?

This is the best way to know how people work... or something simular to that
medesignz
Do you have ideas of influencing questions?

maybe, but i think the sheer physiological effect of red isn΄t something you can train people to have.
like that that person feels the same temperature as warmer in a red environment, than in a blue environment.

initially, i agree... but I think you can, over time, prime someone...

what are your views on priming?
