If you want to stay up-to-date with games, I think frequenting the website to some gaming magazine would be a good idea. However I don't subscribe to any to recommend to you and google isn't working for me right now (no clue what's up with it; responds to ping but site doesn't load) to find you one.
As for downloading or acquiring the games... you're on your own there.

There are many more I assume, but I really like those two. You can read Previews and watch trailers there.

A good online war game would be Battlefield Heroes. Or you could play the COD series, the rest of the Battlefield series, um there are heaps to choose from.
