Tips/Help on my site (Free Online Games)

Okay, So I saw this site
http://gamecity.frihost.net/
(not mine)
And I was wondering how could I make a site like that?
I mean I could easily just use the source but then downloading the images and putting them down on mine would be a lot of work and such; updating the recent games etc etc.
But does this site have some sort of script?
Any help would be greatly appreciated; Thanks in advanced

I'm pretty sure it's done in php and mysql.

Hey, I am the owner/creator of http://gamecity.frihost.net

I coded all of the website in PHP, and using a mySQL database I perform queries to get the information that is required.

For things such as recent games etc. these are done with simple mySQL queries which even I, who has only really just learnt PHP, can code.

For the images etc. i use the PHP "Get" function which gets the id: http://gamecity.frihost.net/Games/showgame.php?id=320 from the URL and I then use it to fetch the ID from the database and load the relevant data.

It may seem complicated what I am doing but it really isn't. To help me when adding new games etc. I have made a form which submits the data to the database, and i have pages from that where I use PHP functions to upload the game files and the IMG's required.

If you need help coding your website, give me a shout and I'll be happy to...but please don't just copy my source code, it's taken me years from when I first started back when I was at school, having to learn lots of html etc. to manage to get to this stage.

Email me at dan@stickists.co.uk
or Post back here, so others can use the help that I give. Very Happy

danway60, it looks like you have a nice site there. Just a suggestion for you, if you have put so much time in to it why don't you buy a domain name and start building more traffic to it. Who knows, with some ads on there you may even make a little money?

Good luck, and great site!

Cheers jwahl16 for the tip. I have put ads on there now, but I don't get alot of money from them, last month I earnt £1.57 lol.

I was thinking about a domain but what's a good website to buy one from? I don't really want to give out my card details to a website that I can't trust as i'm sure you can imagine.

And what should I have? Mostly all of the gamecity urls are gone, and I don't want to change the name of my website as gamecity is starting to get on search engines.

Thanks, Dan.

I always take into condsideration the domain before I name my site, you can try to buy gamecity.com from whoever registered it, because it doesn't look like they are doing anything with it. You can buy a domain from any registrar and xfer it to other registrars. ENOM and godaddy are some places that are reputable registrars.

What's better .net or .co.uk?
Hogwarts
.net is better, but .com is optimal.
