Anyone ever done a timing belt for a 93' Mazda Mx6 LS 2.5L V6? I have been messing with this car for a couple hours now and its starting to get on my nerves im no master mechanic so i was just wondering if anyone had any shortcuts, tips, pointers, or anything else that is useful. Thank you in advance for your help, i appreciate it.

You've been messing around with it for a couple of hours and you're already frustrated? I would calm down a little because it will take you at least several more hours. Timing belts aren't easy to change. It would take me literally all day (although I'm not sure what that translates in time to a professional mechanic - it may only take them a couple of hours) and maybe some of the next day...

I haven't changed a timing belt on a Mazda ever. Basically, you're going to have to take everything in the way out. What I would seriously suggest doing is if you have a digital camera, snapping pictures after every piece you take out so that you can remember how to put it back together.

After replacing the belt, make sure that everything is aligned correctly. You may want to get a timing belt gun (although I know some people that can do it without)... When you start your car back up, make sure everything sounds alright (if you hear clocking, it's not aligned properly). I would seriously suggest trying to pick up the rebuild book on your car. That usually helps a lot. I would also suggest checking youtube to see if there are any how-to videos on it because it's better to see it than to have someone try to explain it over an internet forum...

LOL, yea i know it takes a while i just get frustrated fairly easily Wink So far i got the motor supported, the bottom splash guard removed, the motor mounts removed, water pump pulley and belt tensioners as well as belt is removed it looks like that might be all i need to remove oh yea and of course i removed one portion of the timing belt cover it got dark on me so i cant start again till the morning.

I don't think i can even use a timing light on my car, seeing as i cant see the harmonic balancer or any of the timing components when the cars put back together, i do know that it has to be at top dead center on #1 and the marks have to line up.

I registered for alldata so i got the general instructions to work from i mainly just wanted to know if anyone had any personal experience tips or tricks, shortcuts and things of that nature. Thanks Afaceinthematrix

Good luck tomorrow morning. Car repair can be frustrating... This morning I was having a little trouble changing the serpentine belt on my car... Belts can be frustrating (especially if you're changing a timing belt on a car like yours where you cannot use a timing light gun!). A timing light is tricky... Everything that I do on my car comes either from youtube videos or from the rebuild book on the specific model. So if you have that book, I'd suggest using it. Good luck!
