HP Pavilion dv4-1020us, new, and cannot detect battery

I recently bought a new laptop. It's about a month old now.
Today, I "tripped" over my power cord, and disconnected it. Then, a popup showed up saying that I had 3% of battery left. O.o

I took the battery out, cleaned it, and put it back in.
Now the laptop can't find the battery at all.
Sad

But when I unplug the AC power, the laptop still works fine...

This is an HP Pavililon dv4-1020us
And it was an open display product, if that helps.

And on a side note, the touch button for the mute button doesn't work anymore.

It works fine when you "unplug" or "plug in" the ac power ?

If it doesn't detect the battery at all, maybe something happened on the motherboard.

Did the laptop fall down ?

If its just the power cable, u could try a friends power cable to see if that works.

Probably the output power from the transformer of the power supply reduced when it got pulled out and shorted part of the transforme rcoil.

If u have a multi-tester, check the output voltage of the power supply to se if it still comes right.

If the voltage is a little low, it probably is not high enough to charge the battery, but is enough to power the laptop directly.

It works again after I restarted the laptop.

And no, the laptop didn't fall.
